It would appear that it’s up to Disney if Freaky Friday 2 happens, as both lead stars of the 2003 film would be on board for a sequel. While doing some press for Halloween Ends, Jamie Lee Curtis recently named Freaky Friday as another classic film of hers she wants to revisit. In fact, she has gone so far as to personally pitch the film to Disney, hoping to reunite with Lindsay Lohan in a follow-up movie.

“I’ve already written to Disney, my friends at Disney. I’m in their new Haunted Mansion movie," Curtis recently said on The View. “Let me be the grandma! Let me be the old grandma who switches places. So then Lindsay gets to be the sexy grandma, who is still happy with Mark Harmon in all the ways you would be happy with Mark Harmon.”

She added, “And simply, I would like to see Lindsay be the hot grandma, and I would like to see me try to deal with toddlers today. I want to be a helicopter parent in today’s world, as an old lady.”

There hasn’t been any indication that a sequel is happening just yet, but according to a new report by TMZ, Lohan is “interested” in a Freaky Friday sequel. The report also notes that nobody at Disney has yet reached out to the actress, but with Curtis planting the seed with her recent pitch, anything is possible. Curtis and Lohan have not spoken directly with one another about the potential sequel at this time, though Lohan’s camp claims she’s “heard rumblings” of a Mean Girls sequel happening as well.

Freaky Friday Was a Hit in Theaters Back in 2002

Freaky Friday is based on the 1972 novel of the same name, telling the story of a mother and daughter who magically switch bodies and are forced to deal with one another’s problems from an entirely new perspective. It was a pretty big hit at the box office and performed very well with the critics, but a sequel has never seemed like a possibility until more recently with the rise in popularity of legacy sequels. That’s something Curtis has learned first-hand by revisiting the Halloween franchise.

Mark Waters directed Freaky Friday using a screenplay by Heather Hach and Leslie Dixon. Andrew Gunn produced the film. Along with Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, it starred Mark Harmon, Harold Gould, and Chad Michael Murray, as well as late actor Willie Garson, who passed away last year.
