Prime Video will soon premiere The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power on the small screen, but Cinemark Movie Rewards members will get the chance to catch the first two episodes early on the big screen. Later this month, Cinemark will host a one-night-only screening of the first two episodes of the series at participating theaters. Along with screenings in the U.S. and Canada, the episodes will also be screened at various locations in the UK, Ireland, Argentina, Colombia, Australia, and New Zealand.

The screening itself is free, and reservations come with a $10 snack voucher. However, this is only offered to Cinemark Movie Rewards members. Tickets will be available starting on Monday, Aug. 22, with the screenings set to take place on Aug. 31 at 7:00 p.m. local time. You can read the event’s official description below.

The Rings of Power Takes Heavy Inspiration from the Books

“I just want to sort of quibble with the ‘vaguely connected.’ We don’t feel that way,” the show’s co-creator Patrick McKay previously said. “We feel like deep roots of this show are in the books and in Tolkien. And if we didn’t feel that way, we’d all be terrified to sit up here. We feel that this story isn’t ours. It’s a story we’re stewarding that was here before us and was waiting in those books to be on Earth. We don’t feel ‘vaguely connected.’ We feel deeply, deeply connected to those folks and work every day to even be closer connected. That’s really how we think about it.”

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will make its streaming premiere on Sept. 2, 2022, on Prime Video. After the first two episodes premiere on that date, new episodes will debut every subsequent Friday; the first season consists of eight episodes total.
