Famous funnyman Louie Anderson is battling cancer in the hospital. Per TMZ, Anderson is currently getting treatment at a Las Vegas hospital, with a rep confirming that he’s being treated for Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. This disease is an aggressive cancer said to be the most common type of non-Hodkin lymphoma in the world, but the good news is that it’s considered “potentially curable.” According to his rep, Anderson is currently resting comfortably in his hospital bed.
It’s unclear when Anderson was diagnosed. Over the past year, he has been open about his recent weight loss. During a 2021 appearance on Conan, Anderson said, “I started the pandemic at about 370 or 380 pounds depending on what I was leaning on.”

Referring to his Baskets character, he added, “And now I’m 340. I’m trying to get 275 so I can get into some of my mom’s actual clothes.”
“I’m on the intermittent fast. One minute I’m eating, the next minute I’m not. Then I’m eating again. I figure that way, I’m only eating for 30 minutes out of 60, which is half. I’m trying to get down to 40/20 so I’m not eating for 40 and eating for 20,” Anderson explained. “No, it’s a wonderful thing, the intermittent fasting.”
Louie Anderson Returned as Maurice in Coming 2 America
Paramount
The comedy sequel Coming 2 America was released to Prime Video last year, and it brought back many original stars from the first film. Of course, Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall were there to lead the cast, but among the other stars to return was Louie Anderson. Ahead of reprising the role of the McDowell’s worker in the film, Anderson described the production as the “greatest experience” and had predicted the film would make a “billion dollars.”
“I can’t say anything except it was the greatest experience,” Anderson told TMZ in 2019. “It’s such a great movie. People are going to go crazy for it. I think it’s going to do a billion dollars! Honest to God, I think it’s going to do a billion dollars. It’s such a good script.”
Anderson is also well-known for his acclaimed performance in the FX series Baskets. For that show, he was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy on three consecutive occasions. He won the award in 2016. That series ended in 2019, though Anderson has since appeared in the shows Young Sheldon and Search Party. Anderson also serves as the host of the game show Funny You Should Ask.
On the big screen, Anderson has appeared in movies like The Wrong Guys, Mr. Wrong, and Cook Off!, as well as the Coming to America movies. He also appeared as himself in Adam Sandler’s 2017 comedy Sandy Wexler as one of many celebrities to appear, joining the likes of “Weird Al” Yankovic, Vanilla Ice, Pauly Shore, Lisa Loeb, Jewel, Chris Rock, and Judd Apatow. You can catch Anderson in the film by watching it on Netflix, and you can find Coming 2 America on Prime Video.
