George Lucas seems to have no interest in the format war.
In a story from DVDTown, it looks like none of the Star Wars movies will be released in HD-DVD or Blu-ray disc.
There had been some talk that this might happen even though George Lucas has already stated that he doesn’t think one format is going to emerge as the dominant one. Rather, Lucas feels that ultimately downloads are where the home video industry is headed.
Many thought that they would never see the original three films in the trilogy on DVD. However, Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, Star Wars Episode V: Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi all came out on DVD; albeit as bonus features on the reworked versions of those original films.
