A teaser for Bob Odenkirk’s next show, Lucky Hank, has been posted today, and fans of the actor eagerly await his newest project. While few official details have been told so far, we do know it’s based on a 1997 book titled Straight Man, which chronicles the midlife crisis of an English department chairman. In the short teaser, Odenkirk’s character simply says:

Odenkirk previously stated that the main character is “a cranky guy, but you like him.” He also refers to him as a “misanthrope,” and says he relates to the character. The brief look we get at the bearded college chairman shows us a hardened grimace, very much in line with what you’d expect from a grumpy cynic.

“I’ve always been a difficult man. I specialize in minor strife and insignificant irritation. That’s my lane.”

Bob Odenkirk has been involved in screen productions since the late 80s but hasn’t starred in big-budget blockbusters until recently, such as Nobody and The Incredibles 2. He started off as a writer for Saturday Night Live.

Will Lucky Hank Live Up to the Breaking Bad Legacy?

     AMC

While Lucky Hank is in no way connected to the Breaking Bad universe, it’ll no doubt earn comparisons, since the teaser proudly claims “from the executive producer of Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad.” Additionally, Bob Odenkirk played the unscrupulous lawyer, Saul Goodman, in both shows, earning the actor widespread acclaim and recognition. The final episode of Better Call Saul aired just last summer, so AMC has been quick to continue Odenkirk’s fame. Already, social media users are posting references and memes from Breaking Bad under the Lucky Hank teaser.

Breaking Bad is widely considered to be one of the greatest TV shows of all time, and is still often talked about nearly a decade after the final episode aired. The spin-off, Better Call Saul, has been similarly raved about, and both series were able to get a conclusive ending that lived up to the showrunner’s vision. TV shows can get canceled at the drop of a hat, so it’s a somewhat rare treat when a series gets a proper sendoff.

Lucky Hank will premiere on March 19th, 2023, on AMC and their streaming service, AMC Plus. It stars Bob Odenkirk, along with Mireille Enos, Diedrich Bader, Sara Amini, Cedric Yarbrough, and Suzanne Cryer. It is produced by TriStar Television, and the first season will air for eight episodes.
