Chucky’s position at the top of the mountain as the horror genre’s supreme killer doll has been threatened by the success of M3GAN. Overperforming with its debut in theaters, M3GAN has taken in more money than Avatar: The Way of Water this weekend to become the No. 1 movie. Better yet, the film arrived with a near-perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes, with most viewers and critics walking away satisfied with the movie. This all but guarantees that more M3GAN movies will be coming, and it’s clear that there’s a new killer doll in town that’s here to stay.

On social media, the Chucky and M3GAN characters playfully feuded ahead of the film’s premiere. With M3GAN now released, fans of the new movie are pretty much declaring her the new champion, calling the success of the film a big win that might make the character a new favorite killer doll for some horror fans.

“m3gan just kicked chucky down and dragged him through the mud,” as one tweet reads.

And as another person puts it, “M3GAN really ate chucky’s raggedy ass up! She’s a robot, therapist, serial killer, fashion icon, and the next pop girl! She is THE MOMENT.”

Of course, Child’s Play fans are defending Chucky from the M3GAN fans saying the new film is supreme. As one tweet reads, “I’m seeing a lot of comparisons between M3GAN and Chucky and I just want to say I am firmly placing my flag in the latters camp. M3GAN is many ways is the same story as Chucky, just with modern technology.”

Meanwhile, another Chucky fan uses a clip from the original Child’s Play to throw support behind the redhead. The video is from the scene when Catherine Hicks’ character threatens to throw Chucky into the fire if he doesn’t speak, at which point he attacks her physically while using some very colorful language.

“When someone says M3GAN is better than Chucky,” the tweeter says.

And some fans are just hoping that these two dolls can settle this out once and for all in a crossover movie. No matter whose side the fans are on, such a film would be a must-see for fans of M3GAN and/or Chucky.

“I’m sitting here just waiting for Chucky v. M3GAN: Dawn of Doll Wars,” one fan jokes.

M3GAN Has Been an Instant Hit

Gerard Johnstone directed M3GAN. James Wan and Akela Cooper wrote the story, with Cooper penning the screenplay. The film was produced by Wan and Jason Blum. It stars Violet McGraw, Allison Williams, and Jenna Davis.

When Gemma suddenly becomes the caretaker of her orphaned 8-year-old niece, Cady (Violet McGraw, The Haunting of Hill House), Gemma’s unsure and unprepared to be a parent. Under intense pressure at work, Gemma decides to pair her M3GAN prototype with Cady in an attempt to resolve both problems—a decision that will have unimaginable consequences.”
