Whenever a new biopic is announced, it takes a certain person and career to make it worth it. To say that Madonna is a cultural icon is an understatement. Madonna’s long and luxurious career has set her up for one of the most talked about biopics in recent years. From her redefining pop music, with decades worth of hits, to public controversies and relationships, the Madonna biopic is anticipated to have it all. Not much has been revealed about this film, however, Julia Garner has been cast as the lead, beating out other actresses who also auditioned, like Florence Pugh, Sky Ferreira, Odessa Young, and Sydney Sweeney.
Of course, Madonna has been in the music and entertainment industry for such a long time that she has had her fair share of run-ins, relationships, flings, beefs, and jaw-dropping moments with other celebrities. All of us are ready to “Vogue” in theaters, but what could possibly be in store? Now is the perfect time for us to dive into which iconic celebrities could be portrayed in the Madonna biopic. Here are 10 that we think could make the cut.
10 Dan Gilroy
Ancient history, they say? Back in the early days of Madonna’s career, there are many names that we could point out who contributed to getting her a start in the entertainment world. Dan Gilroy was a musician and lead singer for a band called The Breakfast Club. The two began dating in 1979, back when Madonna was just a struggling artist looking to make it big in New York City. The records of their relationship are abundant online, and if you are looking to make film about Madonna’s life and career, there is no way you can skip out on including Gilroy.
9 Sean Penn

Sean Penn is a Material Girl! The relationship and whirlwind romance between Penn and Madonna began in 1985, on the set of the “Material Girl” music video. The pair fell madly in love, and six months later, decided to get married. The marriage, however, eventually fell part, rocking the entertainment world since they were the “it” couple of the time. Of course, even though the marriage ended, the love didn’t. In the 1991 documentary In Bed With Madonna, the singer was asked about whom the “love of her life” was. She responded, “Sean.”
8 Antonio Banderas

Many of you know Madonna mainly for her music career. However, telling her story would be incomplete without giving her some credit for her involvement in acting. Which brings us to the one and only Antonio Banderas. Madonna and Banderas worked together on Evita, a musical drama from 1996. Although the pair was not involved in a romantic relationship, Madonna revealed that she had a massive crush on the Spanish actor in the documentary / concert film Truth Or Dare, and he had absolutely no idea about it.
7 Guy Ritchie

Film director and Madonna’s ex-husband, Guy Ritchie is a prominent relationship in her time in the spotlight so far. The two met in the late-90s, and they hit it off. What’s more, the two had a child in August 2000 and were married not long after. However, in a tale as old as time, the lovers did not get a happily ever after, ultimately divorcing in 2008.
6 Tupac Shakur
If they are going to make a biopic of Madonna’s life and career, it is the perfect opportunity to include the secret romantic relationship between her and late rapper Tupac Shakur. Two of the biggest names in music history actually had a brief romance going on in the 90s, so we definitely do not think that this could be left out of the Madonna biopic.
5 Michael Jackson
Seeing the two massive icons in pictures together seems like a fever dream sometimes. The entertainment industry is quick to assume relationships between the world’s biggest stars when they are seen together. So, when Madonna and Michael Jackson attended the 1991 Oscars together, people were quick to call it a romance — Madonna herself coining the night as “the best date ever.” Could a portrayal of the King of Pop make it into the biopic? Even bigger question: who would play him?
4 David Letterman
NBC
All celebrities have had their moments on live television and Madonna has quite a few herself. On The Late Show with David Letterman, via YouTube, Madonna made one of the most memorable appearances on a talk show that, honestly, should be framed and hung up in a museum. The pop star of the hour came out ready to chock the world, cigar in hand and filter completely gone. The total “F-bomb” count for the interview? A staggering 14.
3 Britney Spears / Christina Aguilera / Justin Timberlake
Is this one even up for debate? For the sake of this being one iconic moment in time, we are going to clump these three together. Anyone who didn’t live under a rock knows where they were the night that Madonna shared her infamous on-stage kiss with Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, live at the 2003 VMAs. After their performance, Madonna leans in to kiss both Spears and Aguilera, and then the camera cuts to a hilarious reaction from Justin Timberlake, who was involved in a romantic relationship with Spears just the year before.
2 Drake

To continue with the trend of surprise, on-stage kisses, Drake joined the party in 2015. On one of the biggest stages in the world, Madonna and Drake performed together at the Coachella music festival and Drake’s reaction to the moment sparked controversy. He appeared to be disgusted by the make-out, covering his mouth with his hand, leaning over with his eyes tight shut. However, despite the reaction, Drake claimed his reaction was to the taste of her lipstick, not the kiss itself.

The media loves a rivalry. Madonna and Lady Gaga have supposedly been in an ongoing feud for years. Of course, the rumors sparked when people became aware of some glaring similarities to the image and music space the two pop stars occupy. A few jabs were made publicly between the two about their creative choices and, even though the feud itself has been deigned, we are all left to wonder.
