Jeremy London, best known for his roles on the hit TV show Party of Five and Kevin Smith’s cult classic Mallrats, is set to star in Miles Doleac’s new movie Open, from Historia Films. Open, is to begin production in late Spring or early Summer 2022 and has been described as a very unique blend of dark thriller, comedy and musical. The script has been written by Miles Doleac and frequent collaborator, Lindsay Anne Williams, with original songs being written by Doleac and his long-time composer, Clifton Hyde, with contributions from Williams.

Jeremy London certainly seems to be very excited about the project.

“I’ve rarely been as excited as I am to be working with Miles Doleac and Lindsay Williams on their brilliant film, Open. It’s dark and sexy, and my character is a reflection of even my own experience with Hollywood and how easily it relegates actors into oblivion who once had thriving careers,” he explained. “It’s like no other film I’ve ever been in and after 32 years in this business that speaks volumes. I can’t wait to sink my teeth into this shocking and, quite often, darkly-comical character. I’m honored to work with these talented filmmakers and look forward to raising eyebrows and rattling the status quo audiences have become so immune to. This project is like no other, so it’s already a success in my mind.”

In response, Doleac said: “Lindsay and I wrote this with Jeremy in mind. We’re over the moon that he’s as excited about it as we are.”

Aside from his work in Mallrats and Party of Five, Jeremy London has also appeared in the TV shows 7th Heaven and I’ll Fly Away, as well as in the Civil War movie Gods and Generals. He has also worked behind the camera as a director on the 2013 horror film The Devil’s Dozen, in which he also acted. Unfortunately, his acting roles are not the only reason London has been in the public eye. On February 2, he made headlines after being arrested for on a misdemeanor domestic violence charge.

Even more bizarrely, however, was a ‘kidnapping’ incident that took place in 2010 in which the actor told police that “several men” approached him as he was changing a flat tyre, after they helped change the tyre, London offered them a ride home. “A short time later, he was held at gunpoint in the vehicle by one of the occupants,” police said. “The gunman forced London to drive to various locations throughout the city, purchase alcohol and use illicit drugs.” London eventually escaped the vehicle and called police. Police later located London’s vehicle abandoned in Palm Springs. Following an investigation, Brian Adams, a 26-year-old Palm Springs man, was arrested and charged with kidnapping, possession of stolen property, and vehicle theft and car-jacking in connection with this case. London has also been open and candid about his struggles with addiction and featured on the fourth season of Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew, which aired on Vh1 from December 2010 to January 2011.

After several delays, original Mallrats director Kevin Smith announced, in January 2020, that he was once again working on developing a Mallrats sequel called Twilight of the Mallrats. He later confirmed that he had officially completed the first draft of the script and that a number of original cast members including London are set to reappear. This time round, Aparna Brielle will be starring in the lead role as Banner, the daughter of the character Brodie, played by Jason Lee in the original.
