While on her latest tour for her film Babylon, Margot Robbie brought up how she wants to see a romance between her character, Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy. While Robbie tells Variety she does not have a particular actress in mind; she is an advocate for a queer storyline. Robbie said, “I have been pushing for that for years; I cannot tell you how hard I’ve been pushing for that. I want it too.”

While Robbie’s Harley Quinn does not have a confirmed return date to the franchise, the antihero may reappear in the series in upcoming installments. Robbie first played Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad, returned with Birds of Prey, and then The Suicide Squad.

Robbie will not portray the character in the new Joker film, Joker: Folie à Deux, with Joaquin Phoenix. Instead, Quinn will be played by Lady Gaga. Even though Robbie will not play Quinn in the Joker sequel, she states that she is happy to play the kind of character many actresses can play. “It’s such an honor to have built a foundation strong enough that Harley can now be one of those characters that other actors get to have a go at playing. And I think [Lady Gaga] will do something incredible with it.”

Robbie’s latest film, Babylon, about 1920s Hollywood, will be in theaters at the end of the month. The Joker sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux, is not slated to be out until the fall of 2024

Robbie’s latest film is premiering at the time of year when nostalgia is in full swing. Though 1920s Hollywood is likely not a time many readily remember, the era set a precedent for the entire movie industry. Babylon portrays a period in which there was a significant shift in the industry as films went from silent to “talkies.” The movie follows figureheads in front of the camera and behind the scenes that were part of that world.

Babylon is directed by Damien Chazelle (La La Land), and producers include Tobey Maguire (Spider-Man), who also stars. In addition to Robbie, Babylon’s cast includes Brad Pitt (Bullet Train), Diego Calva (Narcos), Jean Smart (Hacks), Olivia Wilde (Don’t Worry Darling), and more.

Babylon is up against other big box office contenders, such as Avatar: Way of the Water and the new Whitney Houston biopic, I Wanna Dance with Somebody.
