At one point in time, Marie Kondo was convincing many people to spruce up their own homes with her widely-viewed reality series as well as several books about home organizing. After the success of her 2011 book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, Kondo would later teach her methods to Netflix subscribers with the series Tidying Up with Marie Kondo, which premiered on the streaming service in 2019. The show had garnered Kondo a lot of praise, earning her an Emmy nomination and prompting Netflix to give her a second series, 2021’s Sparking Joy with Marie Kondo.

But things have changed a bit in more recent years, as Kondo confesses her home is much messier these days. In a new interview with the Washington Post, Kondo explains how she’d always felt the need to maintain a tidy home, given her career, but family time is ultimately more important. The 38-year-old, who welcomed her third child in 2021, has been focusing more time on her children rather than tidying up. From the interview:

Marie Kondo Still Shares Her Tips

That’s not to say Kondo isn’t still working as an organizing expert, sharing her vast knowledge on the subject with new books she continues to publish. In November, she released her newest book, dubbed Marie Kondo’s Kurashi at Home: How to Organize Your Space and Achieve Your Ideal Life. This particular books focuses moer on the Japanese concept of kurashi, which means “way of life.” The idea is to help organize one’s life as well, going beyond the physical belongings people may have at home.

Given how she’s getting lax with her tidying and spending more time with her family, it’s unclear if and when Kondo will return to Netflix for a new reality series. For now, you can go stream both of her previous shows, Tidying Up with Marie Kondo and Sparking Joy with Marie Kondo, on the streaming platform. Unless, of course, that does not spark joy.
