Law and Order: Special Victims Unit star and Executive Producer Mariska Hargitay was recently seen efficiently handling a disruptor situation during the series’ filming this week. Mariska, who plays the famed character of Olivia Benson in the show, stepped up and stopped a man from interrupting with the shooting. A video of the incident has blown up all over Twitter, and it was retweeted by Warren Leight, the Writer and Showrunner of Law and Order: Special Victims Unit.
In the video, Mariska is seen calmly approaching the bystander who kept interrupting the shoot in Washington Square Park with his incessant singing. She handles the situation quite efficiently by saying, “Your singing was beautiful, but we’re just trying to get the shot. Is it okay if you don’t sing when we say ‘action’?”
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
According to the comments on the video on Twitter, the bystander was not a street performer, and was requested by the Law and Order: Special Victims Unit to stop singing during the filming, but apparently in vain. The situation could not be managed until Mariska Hargitay stepped into the scene and requested him to stop, and even struck a deal with the man (details unknown) to honor his consideration. As she is seen saying in the video.
The Writer and Showrunner of Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, Warren Leight retweeted the video with the caption, “What other #1 on the call sheet could do this? We all [love] Mariska.” It is true that one would not often see an A-list actress get to the streets to handle a difficult situation.
“We’ll make a deal, I’m happy to do that for you, it’s just that we’re shooting, so it doesn’t work for the scene. Is that okay? I’ll get to you, though.”
Mariska Hargitay is one of the longest-running stars of the show and has been a part of Law and Order: SVU since the show’s nascence in 1999. Her character Olivia Benson is an understandable fan favorite, who rises through the ranks through the course of the show: starting out as a Detective, and currently presiding as a Captain. Her portrayal of a cop who gets emotionally invested in the cases she handles has earned notable critical acclaim, earning her eight Emmy nominations and two Golden Globe nominations. Mariska has eventually won one of each for her performance in the show.
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit airs live on NBC, Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET.
