Mark Wahlberg may be a bit of an action hero these days, having appeared in the Transformers franchise and soon to be seen with Tom Holland in Uncharted, and while he wouldn’t say no to appearing in a superhero movie, the thing that puts him off is the costumes. Having transitioned to acting after a short music career as part of Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch, Wahlberg has starred in a number of highly praised roles in the likes of Boogie Nights, The Departed and The Fighter, along with comedies such as Ted and its sequel. When it comes to superhero movies, though, Wahlberg would only consider doing one if it didn’t involve dressing up.

While Wahlberg may have managed to avoid starring in a Marvel movie so far, his next films see him acting alongside a couple of Marvel alum in the form of Tom Holland in Uncharted, and Shang-Chi’s Simu Liu in Arthur and the King. With many actors associated with Marvel heroes working together on other projects, the question is would Wahlberg consider working with one of these actors in their MCU roles or with other actors in either a Marvel or DC project. The answer is all dependent on it being the right project.

Speaking to Cinepop, Wahlberg revealed that one almost-superhero type he would love to play in the future is the Six Million Dollar Man, but as for other superheroes that fly off to space wearing neon colors and a cape, it’s not something that Wahlberg sees himself doing. He explained:

Mark Wahlberg Would Be Suited to Playing a Supporting Character, or Providing a Voice Role in The MCU

When it comes to The Six Million Dollar Man, Wahlberg had previously been attached to star in a Warner Bros. movie of the TV show until it was canceled in 2018, but with the actor about to take on the role of Sully in Uncharted, it gives a good idea of the kind of role he would be willing to take on in a superhero movie.

“I like them enough, I’m not one of those purists who is like ‘Oh this is not cinema.’ I think the audiences decide and obviously, they [superhero movies] have been wildly successful. It’s just that for me, personally, as an actor, I would have a really hard time walking out of my trailer with a cape on, and a spandex suit. But that being said, I was working really hard to bring The $6 Million-Dollar man to the screen, which is based on a TV series. And it was based on a lot of wish-fulfillment and what this character could do, based on what they did to him. But it was grounded in reality and you felt like it would be much more believable as being realistic, to me, to be able to play that part, and feel like ‘I could do this,’ in a way that didn’t feel silly. But you never know: maybe the right part will come along! We’ll see.”

Of course, there are still a lot of characters to come to the big screen worlds of both DC and Marvel soon, and that leaves plenty of opportunities for Wahlberg to make his superhero debut in one of the more grounded roles available alongside the fantastically costumed central characters. For now, Wahlberg has plenty of other projects to concentrate on, but don’t be surprised to see him drop in on one of the many comic book movies currently being developed.
