Marvel’s introduction of Blade into the MCU was done very quietly at the end of Eternals, when in a post credit scene Mahershala Ali’s voice was heard warning Kit Harington’s Dane Whitman about the Ebony Blade. With Blade’s solo movie having been in development for a few years and eyeing a release in late 2023 or 2024, it is not surprising that the cast of the movie is now starting to be fleshed out, and the latest addition seems to be Krypton star Aaron Pierre, although it is yet to be revealed who he will be playing in the vampire hunter’s debut film.

While Kevin Feige previously revealed that there had not really been any plans for a solo Blade movie until Ali showed an interest in playing the role, but considering Marvel are heading into darker territory with the likes of Moon Knight and Werewolf By Night, Blade seems to fit perfectly with that particular group of characters. So far the Bassam Tariq directed addition to the MCU has added Delroy Lindo in another mystery role, while Harington’s Dane Whitman is also possibly in line to make even just a small appearance considering the connection made at the end of Eternals.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

Deadline reported that Pierre has been cast in a “highly coveted” role, suggesting that it is one of the main roles of the movie. Whether this turns out to be a hero or villain is something that it doesn’t look like we are going to find out just yet, but according to the reports, the actor was handed the role after quickly making an impact on Feige and Tariq during numerous meetings with various actors. While still seen as an up-and-coming star, Pierre has already appeared in the Syfy Superman prequel Krypton, M. Night Shyamalan’s Old, and the TV series Underground Railroad, as well as being cast as the voice of Mufasa in Disney’s live-action prequel to The Lion King.

Blade is Currently Another Unknown Entity In the MCU, With No Details Known of What to Expect.

While Blade is a well-known character to both comic book fans and the previous movie adaptations starring Wesley Snipes in the lead role, how the daywalker will be portrayed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is currently beyond unknown. While there are plenty of possible theories on offer in fan forums, and a host of adversaries and allies to be used from the many comic books Blade has featured in over the years, there are no official details about the movie available at all.

That said, with the introduction of Moon Knight next month and the reported debut of Werewolf by Night coming as early as Halloween this year, it does seem like Kevin Feige and his team are potentially putting together a version of the Midnight Sons. The supernatural group has over the years included Doctor Strange, Morbius, Punisher, Iron Fist and Ghost Rider among others. With Punisher and Iron Fist originally being part of Marvel Television’s universe on Netflix, the same universe that Charlie Cox’s Daredevil is part of, there are many who believe that these characters could soon become part of the MCU too. Whether this is something that happens sooner rather than later is something that currently only Kevin Feige and a select few knows.
