Others in Hollywood have been offering their support to the Batgirl team with the film getting axed by Warner Bros. Discovery earlier this week. The news came as a tremendous shock to the cast and crew as the movie had already been filmed, and pulling the plug at this point on such a high-budget production is unprecedented. A previous statement released by co-directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah expressed that the two were “shocked and saddened” to learn that their film would never see the light of day.

On Instagram, a new update from Arbi reveals that various names in Hollywood have reached out to offer kind words in light of the news. This includes an email from Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige who wanted the filmmakers to know that he feels for them and what they’re going through. Feige also praised the work they’d done on Ms. Marvel and anticipates what will be coming next for the directing duo. From Feige’s email:

Arbi just happened to be in the process of getting married when the news broke that Batgirl was getting canceled, which is why Feige also congratulated the filmmaker on his wedding in addition to offering support over the film getting axed. No one involved is happy about Batgirl’s demise, but the good news here for Arbi and Fallah is that Feige and many others are watching to see what they’ll be pursuing next.

Revealing that other filmmakers have contacted him as well, Arbi added to his Instagram Stories, “Thanks for all the messages of support all over the world! Shoutout to directors Edgar Wright and James Gunn! Your kind words and experience mean a lot and help us through this difficult period.”

Shortly after it was reported that Batgirl had been pulled from release, Arbi and Fallah released a joint statement online to express how sad they felt. Remaining hopeful that one day the film just might see the light of day, the directors stressed how important it was for everyone’s hard work to be seen by audiences.

The statement also offered great praise to the cast of the film while expressing gratitude for getting to be involved with the DCEU, even if that time didn’t last long.
