Two of Hollywood’s favorite Bostonians are coming back for another round. According to IndieWire, actors Matt Damon and Casey Affleck are reuniting once again for a new project titled The Instigators, per an official release today by Apple Studios. The film itself is to be directed ironically (or not so) by another close friend of the duo, Doug Liman, who also directed the entire Bourne movie franchise among other blockbuster action flicks, such as Tom Cruise’s Edge of Tomorrow (2014).
Not many particular details have been disclosed on the project so far, but for their respective roles in The Instigators, Damon and Affleck play two thieves who are forced to go on the run with one of their own therapists after a robbery they orchestrate goes terribly wrong. Of course, this isn’t the first time the two actors have played a clever pair of swindlers. They took on similar roles together back in the widely popular Ocean’s Eleven (2001) film, along with its two sequels.

The Instigators film is also one of the first new projects under the freshly built roof of Artists Equity studio, co-founded by longtime friends Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. The two actors who have known each other since childhood and co-experienced their breakout roles in the award-winning film Good Will Hunting (1997), have finally brought their years of expertise and resources in the film industry together into a haven for newfound creativity and easier access to profit participation. As such, under Artists Equity, Matt Damon is not only starring but producing The Instigators alongside Ben Affleck, keeping the creative flow within their tight-knit circle.
Alongside this newest project, Damon and Casey Affleck are also both starring in supporting roles in the upcoming no-doubt-ominous film Oppenheimer, directed by cinematic figurehead Christopher Nolan. Damon will play Leslie Groves, head of the infamous Manhattan Project that first created the atomic bomb. Affleck’s role in the film however remains a kept secret, for now. Damon is also slated to star in new untitled biopic drama, also under Artists Equity, about former Nike executive Sonny Vaccaro and his life under the Air Jordan shoe brand. Ben Affleck is also co-starring and directing the film.
The Instigators film will officially be released on Apple TV. The release date, a trailer, and any further details for the film have yet to be announced.
