We know that a sequel to The Batman is in the works, but it remains to be seen who will serve as the film’s primary antagonist. Following the tussle between Batman (Robert Pattinson) and the Riddler (Paul Dano) in the first movie, fans wonder who will be next to face the Dark Knight in Matt Reeves’ standalone Batman universe. Names like Mr. Freeze, Scarecrow, and Two-Face are often suggested by fans, but what if Battinson’s biggest adversary in The Batman 2 is one of the lesser-known supervillains from Batman’s Rogues Gallery?
Based on Pattinson’s love for the bizarre villain Condiment King, Reeves can’t say he’s ruling that one out. In a new interview with ComicBook.com, the director was asked if he had any specific villains in mind to introduce in the sequel. He recalls how Pattinson is particularly amused by Condiment King, so Reeves teases that it could very well be the ketchup and mustard-spraying baddie. To be clear, Reeves isn’t committing to that idea just yet, but he’s not saying that he’s not, either. From the interview:
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
“Oh gosh, I don’t know. I really couldn’t answer that because I really don’t know, and also people are going to be rampantly speculating. I will say that to me the funniest thing that Rob [Pattinson] did the last time that we were on the press tour is that he kept talking about how great he thought it would be if we did Condiment King because he loved the idea of somebody just dousing somebody in mustard. I won’t commit to saying that Condiment King is going to make a reference but I’ll just use that as an answer to your question because I don’t have an answer to your question.”
Condiment King Won’t Appear in the DCU
DC Comics
It would appear that Condiment King’s best shot at getting on the big screen would be for Reeves to include him in The Batman 2. The film is not intended to be a part of the new DCU established by James Gunn and Peter Safran, where it’s already been made clear that Condiment King isn’t welcome. When one fan previously asked Gunn on Twitter if the supervillain was a part of the DCU’s plans, a blunt response was given to shut down that possibility.
For now, fans can only speculate as to who the villain in The Batman 2 really ends up becoming. At the very least, the inclusion of Condiment King, even as a side character with little screen time, could serve as a fun Easter egg for the fans hoping to see a live-action version of the supervillain on the big screen one day.
