Universally beloved actor Keanu Reeves is one of Hollywood’s most popular stars, but not everyone out there is a fan. As it turns out, Friends star Matthew Perry is apparently not a fan of the John Wick actor. This revelation was revealed in the new memoir by Perry, dubbed Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, by way of taking multiple jabs at Reeves.

Per Page Six, one reference to Reeves came after Perry told a story about late actor River Phoenix. Perry and Phoenix had previously worked together on the film A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon, which was released in 1988. Looking back upon Phoenix’s death in 1993, Perry morbidly joked that it should have been Keanu Reeves instead. As Perry writes:

At another point in the memoir, Perry again takes a dig at Reeves in response to the death of another actor. This time, Perry speaks about the passing of comedy legend Chris Farley after the two shared the screen in the comedy movie Almost Heroes. Perry describes his angry reaction to hearing about Farley’s death and again lamented how it was unfair that it wasn’t Reeves instead.

There are no additional references to Reeves in the book, and it is not explained why Perry feels the way he does about the Matrix star. The two actors have never worked together and it’s not clear if they’ve actually met. It might just be that Perry is not a fan of Reeves’ work as an actor, as his comments about Phoenix seem to imply that Reeves is untalented.

Matthew Perry Also Writes About His Addiction Struggles

In his memoir, Perry comes clean about the problems he has had over the years with his addiction struggles. He says he has spent around $9 million on his path to sobriety, having many relapses along the way. He also wrote about how his Friends co-stars, especially Jennifer Aniston, had been there for him all throughout, caring for him in a way that penguins would with each other.

Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing will be released on Nov. 1, 2022.
