The Marvel Cinematic Universe births heroes like it’s a marathon. Throughout the years since this franchise kicked off, fans have learned to love many of them and hold them close to our hearts. Avengers: Endgame marked the end of an era for the MCU, and audiences were forced to say goodbye to some of our favorite heroes. With the sad goodbyes, however, came the introduction of a new line of heroes. One of the most anticipated debuts happens to be Sam Wilson as Captain America.

Throughout the MCU, the role of Captain America has been fulfilled, graciously and exquisitely by Steve Rogers, played by 2022’s Sexiest Man Alive, Chris Evans. Evans, and therefore, Steve Rogers departed from the role, and his successor is the one and only Sam Wilson. Sam, or The Falcon, is played by Anthony Mackie. Mackie has stepped fully into the role of Captain America in the finale of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Here are the best moments that prove that Sam Wilson will be a great Captain America.

On Your Left

If you needed any proof that passing the mantle to Sam is the right call, all you have to do is look at the history between Sam and Steve. One of the most iconic moments from the entire MCU is the parallels between their meeting for the first time and reuniting post-Snap. “On your left” is just one of those lines that holds a special place in Marvel fans’ hearts, and it is one of the defining factors that show the bond between Sam and Steve. This friendship is the perfect fuel for Sam Wilson’s Captain America train, and he surely will not disappoint.

Loyalty to Steve

If Sam Wilson is anything, he is loyal. He has been Steve’s right-hand man since the day they met, and even when things started getting contentious with their own people, he never faltered once. In Captain America: Civil War, Sam is on Steve’s side without question. Arguing about who was right or wrong in this movie can be up for a never-ending debate. No matter whose side you are on in this fight, this is a testament to his character. Every second that Sam is by Steve’s side, the more prepared he gets to take on any and all of his responsibilities.

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier

This entire show was the turning point for Sam. When Steve Rogers steps down from being Captain America, the two easy contenders to be the next to hold the shield are Sam and Bucky. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier allowed both of them to find themselves and establish their identities outside who they are with Steve. The cultural and social impact of Sam becoming the new Captain America is significant in the sense that Sam is a true representation, a mirror of the American people. He continues to fight to actively make the world better and not just stand by waiting for orders. From the storyline with Isaiah Bradley to even his talk with U.S. Senators, the themes of this show kick into gear what Sam Wilson will bring as Captain America, and as an audience, we are extremely excited to see him in action.

His Captain America Debut

At the end of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, fans were given the absolute treat of seeing Sam Wilson’s debut as Captain America. Before wielding the shield, we all recognize Falcon as a hero already. However, mixing his winged suit with a new and improved Captain America suit had fans in a frenzy. In true MCU fashion, the new Captain America made one hell of a badass first appearance that left us salivating for more. If you had doubts before this, you definitely won’t after seeing this scene.

Passing the Torch

Avengers: Endgame is full of unforgettable moments. Endgame is the movie where the fractured part of the MCU after Infinity War are put back together and also the film where stories come to a close. Just as audiences geared up to say goodbye to Steve Rogers’s Captain America, they were met with the next chapter for the iconic hero. Steve, old and withered, is approached by Sam, and with Bucky looking on in the back, he asks Sam to try on the shield. Now, if you trust Steve as Captain America (which, of course, we do), then his judgment means a lot. Choosing Sam instead of Bucky in this scenario is enough proof that he is made for the job.
