Fresh off the hot heels of Paramount’s Top Gun: Maverick, actor Miles Teller’s stock is at an all-time high for audiences and critics everywhere. Playing the son of the beloved Goose from the original film, Teller (as Rooster) gave a riveting performance alongside legendary action star Tom Cruise in the long-awaited sequel. Though this may be his most popular film, Miles Teller has starred in a multitude of fabulous projects over his career. Whiplash, with JK Simmons, brought him massive critical acclaim, after previously starring opposite Shailene Woodley in the Divergent trilogy. He then went on to star alongside Jonah Hill in War Dogs, and Bleed for This with Aaron Eckhart.

What most forget, or try to ignore, is potentially the worst film Miles Teller has been in, 2015’s Fantastic Four, directed by Josh Trank. Playing Mr. Fantastic (alongside Micheal B. Jordan as Human Torch, Kate Mara as Susan Storm) Teller’s performance was one of the lone bright spots of the Golden Raspberry-nominated Worst Picture flick. Now, however, after actors Chris Evans and Micheal B. Jordan both got a second chance to play Marvel heroes; and after Teller’s performance in Maverick, it may be Miles’ turn to make an official trip as a new character into the MCU. Here’s who he could potentially play.

6 Nova (Richard Rider)

     Marvel Comics

What seems to be the most popular fan-casting for Miles Teller, is the Human Rocket himself: Nova, Richard Rider. A member of the Nova Corps (shown in Marvel’s Gaurdians of the Galaxy) Richard Rider is charged with protecting the galaxy, and is friends with most of the Guardians of the Galaxy (in which he has been a brief member here and there). A tall guy with brown hair and charisma, Teller would be a perfect fit for Nova.

5 Mr. Fantastic (Reed Richards)

Though it may be an unpopular opinion (due to the immense popularity and deep fan casts of actor John Krasinski as the world’s smartest man), Miles Teller could be given a second chance as Reed Richards in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Teller was praised for his performance as Reed back in the unpopular Fantastic Four (2015), and combined with his stellar performance as a man under pressure in Whiplash. With better writing, Teller could prevail again as possibly the best on-screen version of Reed Richards to this point.

4 Cyclops (Scott Summers)

After the earth-shattering news of Disney acquiring Fox Studios, which brings the X-Men to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, fans flocked to start casting actors as the Mutants. One who Miles Teller could play is the leader of Summers family and the X-Men: Scott Summers. A troubled man who can shoot energy blasts from his eyes, and who is part of some of the most heartbreaking storylines in Marvel Comics history; Cyclops could be a fascinating character study for Teller to take on.

3 Legion (David Xavier)

Continuing the theme of X-Men characters, another potentially good fit for Teller is the terrifying and troubled son of the legendary Charles Xavier, Legion. Legion (David Haller) inherited his father’s telepathic powers, but due to traumatic events in his childhood, also ended up with dissociative identity disorder (hence the name “Legion”, each differing personality taking over the powers). Though originally an anti-hero, Legion would work best in the modern era as a morally gray character. With Teller’s acting experience dealing with extreme and traumatic events, he could possibly play Legion well.

2 Iron Fist (Danny Rand)

Arguably the least popular of the Netflix Marvel shows, the original Iron Fist (starring Finn Jones as the titular hero) series ran for two seasons before getting canceled, with strongly negative critical reviews. Now, with Daredevil returning (and potentially other street-level heroes), it may be time for Iron Fist to return, though with a new actor. Bringing his charisma from Top Gun: Maverick, Miles Teller would do well as Danny Rand; a hero well-liked by nearly all other Marvel characters. If Luke Cage were to return, Teller’s ability to connect and bounce off his co-stars is next to none (as shown in That Awkward Moment), and would allow for some truly great television.

1 Ghost Rider (Danny Ketch/ Johnny Blaze)

As mentioned throughout the article, Miles Teller has a wide range of acting abilities, from funny characters in That Awkward Moment to a more serious role in War Dogs, and a mix of both in Top Gun: Maverick. This range of his acting ability would allow Teller to excel as either incarnation of the Ghost Rider, Danny Ketch or Johnny Blaze. Blaze being more of a “bad boy” with a hauntingly troubled past. Ketch is more of a “good guy”, seeking out revenge and retribution for those wronged by the criminals of the world. Though Nic Cage’s performance as Ghost Rider is still beloved by fans more than ten years later, Teller would have little problem filling in the boots of the former actor.

Above are just a few of the suggested characters the talented Miles Teller could possibly play. But, until he is actually cast, fans and audiences will have little clue as to which character he will actually be.
