Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is set to bring a new Wakanda experience for viewers. While there are no plans for a third installment of the film series yet, the world of Wakanda is set to expand further with a Dinsey+ spin-off series. The untitled Wakanda Spin-off was announced in 2021, with Ryan Coogler involved in the project as both showrunner and executive producer through his banner Proximity Media.
As Black Panther: Wakanda Forever sets the story of Black Panther on a new path, the Wakanda Spin-off will help fans dive further into the kingdom and, most importantly, know more about Okoye and Dora Milaje. However, Wakanda Forever producer Nate Moore has given a not-so-promising update on the show. It was earlier suspected that the show is being actively developed at Marvel Studios. But, it turns out, the work on the project has not yet begun, and the script is also yet to be laid out.
Talking to Collider, Nate Moore revealed that Wakanda Spin-off is not as near as the fans would want, but ideas for it are being laid out. The reason for the delay is Ryan Coogler’s busy schedule with the production of Ironheart.
Black Panther fans will be slightly disappointed with the news. With no plans for Black Panther 3 and Wakanda Spin-off delayed, it would be some time before the MCU takes them to the nation. Per Nate’s comments, the spin-off is still under conceptualization.
Because of the amount of time and attention that went into this film, and frankly the Ironheart show, that is probably not as far along as people want it to be, but there are certainly great ideas that we’re still talking to Ryan about. So, we’ll see how far we can get with it.
Ironheart is Nearly Complete and Set for Post-Production
Marvel Studios
While the Wakanda Spin-Off is not precisely on the charts, Disney+’s Ironheart is nearly complete and set to enter the final stages of production. The show features Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams, who takes on the mantle of Ironheart after developing a suit that rivals Tony Stark’s Iron Man. The character is set to make her first appearance in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, where Shuri and Okoye will recruit her.
Talking about Ironheart, Moore said:
Ryan Coogler is executive producing Ironheart, which is why he hasn’t started any profound work on Wakanda Spin-off. Marvel Studios is set to announce a release date for Ironheart, but it’s expected to stream on Disney+ during late 2023. The show has found Parker Robbins, aka The Hood, in Anthony Ramos, a character who will portray an ally of Riri Williams. Currently, Ironheart is in the news for reportedly getting Sacha Baron Cohen on board as Mephisto, a character heavily rumored to be in MCU since WandaVision.
It’s nearly complete. I think they might be on their second to last day if I’m not mistaken.
The Wakanda Spin-off, though not in production, is a much-awaited series in the MCU. But given its status, the show will not release before Phase Six of the continuity if it fits somewhere in the Multiverse Saga.
