Season 19 of Grey’s Anatomy is set to introduce a whole host of new cast members. A first-look video from the hit ABC medical drama has been released, giving people a glimpse of what’s to come. The trailer starts with Ellen Pompeo as Dr. Meredith Grey, the hospital’s interim Chief of Surgery, showing a group of first-year surgical residents a tour of the hospital.

Following the Season 18 finale, Grey Sloan was ordered to disband and rebuild its teaching program. These “diamonds in the rough” interns might not have been accepted elsewhere, but Grey Sloan has given them a chance. The video introduces all the new characters and provides a glimpse of the new dynamic they’ll bring, with each new cast member giving a brief description of their nature in the clip below.

“Fans should expect all of the things that they love about the show, but with an explosion of newness,” said Midori Francis, who plays one of the new residents.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

Adelaide Kane is Jules Millin, who can be a little bit bossy, and a little impulsive, but she’s very kindhearted. Harry Shum Jr. is Benson “Blue” Kwan, who’s usually very competitive while striving to be number one. Alexis Floyd is Simone Griffith, who brings a very grounded but emotional connection to her work. Niko Terho is Lucas Adams, who’s trying to prove himself and prove that he deserves to be there. Francis is Mika Yasuda, who’s a jokester trying to make people laugh, though sometimes that same sense of humor gets her into trouble.

“Me, every day going onto set, I liken it to going to Disney World when you’re first a kid. I’m stepping into the kingdom,” said Niko Terho, who plays another of the new residents.

What to Expect From the New Season of Grey’s Anatomy

In what is likely a nod to the very first episode of Grey’s Anatomy, where Meredith had a one-night stand with Patrick Dempsey’s Derek, the video shows Jules realizing she accidentally slept with an attending Link (Chris Carmack) already. Jules tells what she learns to Mika, who responds by saying that she “works fast.”

“I really just want to come in and do my absolute best and portray a character that the fans can relate to,” said Kane.

The Season 18 regulars who made it to the finale are back. Those we get of glimpse of in the video are Chandra Wilson’s Bailey, Kevin McKidd’s Owen, Kim Raver’s Teddy, and Scott Speedman’s Nick. The latter of whom seems to be back on good terms with Meredith, following the big falling out they had in the previous season finale.

“A second chance is a big theme this season for both the interns as well as many of the characters you know and love already,” Floyd says.

You can stream the new season of Grey’s Anatomy on Hulu, with the premiere date set for Thursday, October 6th. Pompeo will be scaling back her on-screen presence to eight episodes. The reason for that is her commitment to Hulu’s Orphan limited series, inspired by the true story of Ukrainian-born Natalia Grace. Her adoptive parents claimed she was an adult “sociopath” posing as a child.

“We’re just here to help carry the torch.”
