HBO has released a preview trailer for “Please Hold My Hand, Episode 4 of The Last of Us, set to air on Sunday, February 5, giving fans another look at Melanie Lynskey (Castle Rock, Yellowjackets) as Kathleen, described as the ruthless leader of a Kansas City revolutionary movement.

“Long, Long Time,” the third episode of the series, was an emotional, heart-wrenching episode about a gay couple, Bill (Nick Offerman) and Frank (Murray Bartlett), and has been praised as one of the best episodes of television in months. Meanwhile, the critically acclaimed episode has angered some viewers, who argue that the show changed the canon.

Episode 4, “Please Hold My Hand,” will pick back up with Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey), now with a truck and on the road to Wyoming. In the Episode 4 preview trailer, it appears that the duo gets lost and winds up in Kansas City, where things go from bad to worse when they end up in the middle of a fight that isn’t theirs and have to find their way through the chaos. The events in the trailer mirror events in The Last of Us video game that occurred in the Pittsburgh QZ, home of the Hunters, a largely hostile group of survivors who overtook the military and reclaimed the city as their own. According to fan theories, Lynskey’s character Kathleen might be the leader of this group.

Melanie Lynskey Receives an Outpour of Support on Twitter

In response to a Bloody DIsgusting tweet promoting an article about what fans of the HBO drama can expect in next Sunday’s Episode 4, one Twitter critic responded with, “More homosexual agenda pushing,” referring to the show’s decision to depict Frank and Bill’s relationship on screen. The decision to include Frank as a living character was a departure from the video game, in which Frank has already died when players meet Bill, and it is being heavily criticized by homophobic viewers.

Luckily, however, the actress took the comment in stride, cheekily responding with, “OMG yes let me push that homosexual agenda just by showing up! An honour!”

Fans, celebrities, and brands responded to Lynskey’s clap back, showing their support for the actor’s upcoming debut as Kathleen.

Supergirl actor Nicole Maines responded to Lynskey’s tweet calling out the commenter, saying, “Nothing short of a hero. A queer-o if you will.”

GLAAD, an organization that monitors LGBTQIA+ representation in media and entertainment, responded with a laughing emoji.

Comic creator Jody Houser also got in on the joke, tweeting a GIF of someone giving birth.

Senior Editor at Slate Culture, Sam Adams, responded to Lynskey with, “Cordyceps said ‘gay rights.’”

Astro Glide even tweeted at Lynskey, calling the actress a “queen.”
