Moon Knight star Oscar Isaac has provided an update on the development of one of his many other highly anticipated projects, the Metal Gear Solid movie. Isaac was confirmed to be playing the lead character Solid Snake in Sony’s video game adaptation back in December 2020, and while speaking with IGN, the actor revealed that the Metal Gear Solid movie is still moving forward. They just haven’t found the story yet.

So, while it seems that Oscar Isaac is still very much on board with portraying video game icon Solid Snake, the production team has not yet found the right way to launch the franchise on the big screen. Created by Hideo Kojima and developed and published by Konami, Metal Gear Solid remains one of the most recognizable and celebrated video games of the modern era.

“We’re searching, we’re searching like Solid Snake. We’re climbing through air ducts, we’re looking for the story.”

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

Following a special forces operative who is assigned the task of finding the titular superweapon “Metal Gear,” Isaac and the team behind the movie adaptation are clearly taking things seriously. No doubt with the hopes of avoiding the mistakes so often made by video game adaptations in the past.

Oscar Isaac was confirmed to be playing the lead role back in 2020, with Sony outing set to be helmed by The Kings of Summer and Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts, working from a screenplay written by Jurassic World and Pokémon Detective Pikachu’s Derek Connolly. Vogt-Roberts has since revealed his hopes for the Metal Gear movie to receive an R rating, something which is sure to please fans. “It’s about doing it for a price so you can make the riskier, balls-to-the-wall, Kojima-san version of it,” the filmmaker explained. “To me, it’s a way to make the first great video game movie where it doesn’t matter that it’s based on a video game.”

Oscar Isaac Will Next Lead Marvel’s Moon Knight on Disney+

     Marvel Studios

Before undergoing a decidedly grizzled makeover to play Solid Snake in Metal Gear Solid, the hugely sought-after talents of Oscar Isaac will next be seen joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Moon Knight. Isaac stars in the Marvel series as Marc Spector, a mercenary suffering from dissociative identity disorder who is left for dead and makes a deal with an Egyptian god in order to return to the land of the living.

Imbued with incredible powers, Spector becomes the vigilante Moon Knight, using his newfound gifts to fight crime and no doubt stop some sort of world-ending event. Drawn into a deadly mystery involving Egyptian gods with his multiple identities, Moon Knight will see Isaac play several different characters, including Steven Grant, a mild-mannered British gift-shop employee suffering from blackouts and memories of another life; and Mr. Knight, a street-level detective personality who wears a suit.

Created by Jeremy Slater, Moon Knight stars Ethan Hawke as Arthur Harrow, a religious zealot and cult leader, and the series’ main antagonist, alongside May Calamawy, Gaspard Ulliel, Lucy Thackeray, and F. Murray Abraham.

Moon Knight is due to premiere on March 30, 2022, and will run for six episodes until May 4 as part of Phase Four of the MCU.
