Mila Kunis had a long-time collaboration with Seth McFarlane before being cast in the role of Lori in the comedy movie Ted. However, the actress says she wasn’t the first choice for the role but spent long enough suggesting other stars for the part that she “aged into it.” Although the then 27-year-old was playing the partner of 39-year-old Mark Wahlberg, it seems that a year between the original pitch of the movie and it being made was enough for her to be able to step into Lori’s shoes.
Ted was Seth McFarlane’s big-screen live-action directorial debut, and as well as being a classic comedy of the decade, it spawned a sequel and will soon also get a prequel TV series. While Ted brought in a number of Family Guystars, Kunis was not just another star who was plucked from McFarlane’s regular collaboration list to play Lori, in fact, she spent a lot of the movie’s pre-production suggesting other actresses who could possibly take on the part, before eventually being offered the part herself. She told the Happy Sad Confused podcast:

Mila Kunis Will Be Soon Appearing in That ‘90s Show on Netflix
While Mila Kunis won’t be returning to the small screen in Paramount’s Ted prequel series, she will be returning to another of her previous roles in Netflix’s That ‘90s Show, the revival sequel to That ‘70s Show. The follow-up will not only feature Kunis but also real-life husband Ashton Kutcher, Kurtwood Smith, Debra Jo Rupp, Topher Grace, Wilmer Valderrama and Laura Prepon.
“He was casting it for a while before Wahlberg signed on, but even once Wahlberg signed on, he was casting other women. And he kept coming to me during recordings and being like ‘who else?’. Because it took a while for a talking bear movie to get made. And I kept throwing out names like ‘what about that person? She’s a great actress’. And then all of the sudden I started getting older and older and older. And in Hollywood, I now can play opposite Mark Wahlberg, magically…But at that point I had already went through, like, a year of casting with him.”
Kunis recently dropped a spoiler for the new series while discussing her return and sharing a little information about what is coming for her character in the revival. Be warned if reading on… Kunis revealed:
There is currently no air date for That ‘90s Show, but having wrapped in July, it is likely not too long before the series arrives on Netflix.
“My husband and I are together in [the new show], which is weird ‘cause we shouldn’t have been. You know what, I called B.S. I was like, ‘My character would be with Fez.’ I think that I ended up with Wilmer [Valderrama]’s character. And I was like, ‘Why are you and I together?’ And also, he was married when ’70s ended, to Shannon Elizabeth’s character, I think. Now we’re like 20 years — no, 16 years later, whatever it is, and now we’re married with a kid. And I was like, ‘I don’t know about this one.’”
