Across the Spider-Verse Will ‘Break the Pipelines All Over Again’
Sony Pictures Releasing
Across the Spider-Verse looks to be an even more ambitious film than its lauded prequel, with senior animator teasing they originally had an Avengers: Endgame-like ending for this film. Phil Lord and Chris Miller, producers for the sequel, spoke about how their new movie is pushing boundaries and stoking excitement.
“The things we’re doing in this new Spider-Verse movie are breaking the pipelines all over again. But everyone’s excited about it and not just terrified,” they said.
Additionally, they claimed that it will “definitely [be] more insane." With all the marketing thus far indicating such grand-scale production, Across the Spider-Verse promises an extraordinary show and an out-of-this-world experience that’ll be sure to leave audiences gripping their seats.
Phil Lord has also shared that the sequel will feature six different animation styles, in contrast to the single style used in the previous film.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is a film directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson, written by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and David Callaham. It is scheduled for release on June 2, 2023.
“The first film had one animation style that dominates the movie. This movie has six,” Lord revealed. “So we’re taking those tools, adding all the things we learned on The Mitchells Vs The Machines, and then growing them further to accommodate the ambition of this movie. Which is to wow you every time you enter a new environment, and also to make sure that the style of the movie reflect the story, and that the images are driven by feelings, as opposed to some egg-headed art project. Which it also is, by the way!”
