Minx has found a new home at Starz following their cancelation by HBO. Following a well-received first season, the series was quickly renewed for a second season in May, shortly after their first season concluded. However, in December, HBO announced they would not proceed with the series’ sophomore season. At the time, filming was nearing completion, and Lionsgate TV (the studio behind Minx) began to shop the series to other streamers and networks.

In a statement to Variety, Jeffrey Hirsch, President and CEO of Starz said:

Starz will air the first season of Minx and the upcoming second season, but a release date has not been announced. As Lionsgate is Starz’s parent company, the move is not surprising.

“We have always felt this show would be a perfect fit for our brand with our dedication to narratives by, about and for women. Starz is proud to be the new home for this incredible show that has drawn in well-deserved critical acclaim. We’re excited to welcome Ellen [Rapoport, series creator] and the talented ‘Minx’ team to the network and can’t wait to bring its passionate fans the second season.”

Minx is set in Los Angeles during the 1970s and follows Joyce (Ophelia Lovibond) and Doug (Jake Johnson), who come together and create Minx. Ophelia is a young feminist with a vision for a magazine she dreams of publishing, targeted towards women who think and feel like she does. Doug is a porn publisher who sees a gap in the flourishing pornography business. Together, the two launch Minx, the first erotic magazine for women.

Minx season one also stars Idara Victor, Jessica Lowe, Lennon Parham, Michael Angarano, and Oscar Montoya. In addition, Elizabeth Perkins will appear in the second season as a recurring character. Minx was created by Ellen Rapoport, who also serves as showrunner and an executive producer. Paul Feig and Dan Magnante for Feigco Entertainment, Ben Karlin and Rachel Lee Goldenberg also serve as executive producers, with Johnson on board as co-executive producer. The first season received largely positive reviews.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining the Starz family, and for the opportunity to introduce Minx to a brand new audience. We’ve found the perfect home. Our writers, cast and crew have created something truly special in Season 2, and I can’t wait for everyone to see it,” Rapoport said.
