Marvel Comics has given us countless amazing characters and stories to enjoy since their founding back in 1939. Many of our favorite characters have been the most relatable and awesome of them all, villains and heroes alike. Though a subgroup of character types, which has a very wide range of characters, has been mostly untouched by the ever-growing MCU, monsters. While monsters in Marvel Comics can hold a very general definition with many differing examples, they have given us some of the most interesting characters and story arcs. In all fairness, many of the monsters that we see in the Marvel Comics are quite obscure, which may leave the casual viewer of MCU films and television scratching their heads. Nevertheless, with the different concepts the MCU has been introducing and having some solid success in doing so, they should consider adding more monster-like characters to their roster in the near future.

While the MCU has had their fair share of monsters thus far, both in the literal and metaphorical sense, there are so many more legit monsters that they could introduce. From non-humanoid alien races to giant celestial threats, or from mutated humanoids to man-made atrocities, the Marvel Comics roster has had plenty of monster characters throughout its life to not add more to the MCU. In fact, the MCU’s biggest defeated threat to date, the Mad Titan Thanos, can be considered a monster in many aspects. There’s Korg from Thor: Ragnarok, or Ego The Living Planet from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, or even Groot from The Guardians of the Galaxy, to name a few. Now, allow us to dive right into a few monsters that have yet to appear in the MCU, but absolutely should.

8 Fing Fang Foom

     Marvel Comics

Fing Fang Foom is undeniably one of the coolest monsters Marvel Comics has to offer. From his debut in Strange Tales #89 back in 1961, this extraterrestrial dragon creature has been part of many fantastic comic stories and has some seriously strong powers. This monster is not only beautiful in the comics, but he would be a visual treat for MCU viewers, as we have already seen two dragon creatures in the recently released Shang-Chi: Legend of the Ten Rings. With the Shang-Chi film getting into ancient depictions of dragon creatures and Chinese mythology, and with Fing Fang Foom being one of Shang-Chi’s biggest foes in the comics, this shape-shifting alien creature would be an amazing addition to the MCU villain lineup.

7 Man-Thing

Man-Thing is a mutated humanoid with some Captain America-type abilities and a grotesque appearance. Ted Sallis, a scientist who was attempting to recreate the super solider serum that made Steve Rodgers into the star-spangled hero we know as Captain America, was transformed into Man-Thing after his experiment went wrong, and his serum had negative side effects that made him mutate into an atrocity. This swamp-living monster isn’t necessarily a villain in Marvel Comics, though he seems to fit that description often. Man-Thing is an empathic monster who wishes to be left alone and looks to do good when it is convenient for him. With the introduction of replicates of the super solider serum throughout the MCU’s phases, and most recently in the Disney+ series Falcon and the Winter Solder, it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to have a similar construct of character as Man-Thing in the MCU.

6 Devil Dinosaur

A lesser-known and more farfetched monster character who would be amazing if added to the MCU would be Devil Dinosaur. While this dino anti-hero hails from a different Marvel Comics universe, he wouldn’t be the first MCU character to do so. With the introduction of alternate timelines, dimensions, and universes as well as their different characters, in projects like Loki and Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness, the Devil Dinosaur could be an addition that fits well into the MCU. This T. Rex was rescued by a character named Moon Boy in the original comics, and went on to fight against tyranny alongside other heroes in a handful of different teams throughout the years. Most recently, being teamed up with and devoted to a character named Moon Girl, who has recently been controversially named the smartest character in all of Marvel Comics. The Devil Dinosaur would be fantastic in an animated project in the MCU, such as What If…

5 Mephisto

Mephisto is a Marvel villain through and through, who has had a hand in many misfortunes some of our most beloved heroes have had to endure. He represents the Christian idea of Satan, a.k.a. the devil, and is a manipulative, lying demon who only wishes to rule or destroy the earth, and then the universe. Fans have been awaiting his arrival for some time now, as he was speculated to be behind the malicious actions of Wanda in WandaVision, and even the reality manipulation in Spider-Man: No Way Home. While neither seems to have been the case, you can never be too sure he doesn’t have a hand in the ill fates or happenings in and around the MCU. The devil, as the saying goes, is in the details, and the MCU is known for its attention to detail in each installment.

4 Dracula

While Dracula isn’t a Marvel-exclusive character, like many other mythical characters or creatures in popular culture, he has a strong footing in Marvel Comics lore. The undead king of vampires has tangled with many Marvel heroes in the comics, the most often being Blade. Many long-time fans of Marvel, horror, or both, must remember the original Blade Trilogy starring Wesley Snipes, where Dracula was featured. Dracula, also known as the Vampiric Lord Drake, is an incredibly powerful antagonist with an army of vampires available to do his bidding. With a reboot of Blade coming to the MCU proper by or before 2024, we can only hope and expect there to be a version of the horrifically fantastic Count Dracula involved.

Blade Reported to Make MCU Debut in Werewolf by Night Special

3 Swarm

Swarm, being another obscure character, may be a bit more difficult to bring into the normal MCU as we know it, though it would be sweet. Fritz Von Meyer is a villain who was originally an escaped Nazi scientist living in South America as a beekeeper, after fleeing from Germany towards the end of WWII. When Meyer discovered a hive of mutated bees and attempted to enslave them, he was devoured by them and had his consciousness kind of uploaded to the hive due to the mutated bees’ properties. He went on to fight many fan-favorite heroes, such as Spider-Man, and would fit into the MCU well with other bug-themed characters. An Ant-Man sequel or prequel, a Spider-Man sequel, or even a Captain America sequel or prequel would be a good fit for the villainous Swarm.

2 The Thing

     20th Century Fox

The Thing is a more well-known monster-type hero in Marvel Comics, having been seen on the big screen a few times already. He is a core member of The Fantastic Four, Marvel’s first family, and works hard at being a bad guy-clobbering, mutated rock humanoid. The Thing is somewhat of a scary individual to look at, though he is a big-hearted, caring hero whose heart may be stronger than even his body is. With The Fantastic Four set to debut in the MCU in the coming years ahead, and with another member, Reed Richards’ Mr. Fantastic, already being introduced through the multiverse in the latest Dr. Strange film, we can expect to soon see The Thing once again on the big screen.

1 Galactus

Galactus is a giant celestial being who devours worlds as he pleases, making him a huge cosmic threat and a fan-favorite villain of the Marvel Universe. He is a Fantastic Four foe and the main antagonist in the 2007 film Fantastic Four 2: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Galactus is a true endgame-type villain that will, once introduced, take many of Earth’s mightiest heroes to defeat, or ward off. As a powerful Thanos-level antagonist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Galactus could very well destroy Earth when he comes to the MCU, or at least Earth somewhere in the multiverse, because he is that deadly. Fans of Marvel Comics, The Fantastic Four, and the MCU alike can’t wait for Galactus to appear in the MCU’s continuity.
