The latest clip from Marvel’s upcoming Disney+ series, Moon Knight, has Ethan Hawke demonstrating his particular set of super-powered skills. Unveiled by the series’ official Twitter account, the footage is the first indication of what Hawke’s villainous cult leader Arthur Harrow is capable of, and it should provide Moon Knight with all manner of chaos to deal with.
The clip has Steven Grant and Layla El-Faouly, played by Oscar Isaac and May Calamawy respectively, on the run from Arthur Harrow and his goons. Struggling to fight back and escape, Harrow decides to make things even more difficult for the pair by showing off his own mysterious set of powers, opening a glowing, purple portal in the ground from which a monster emerges. The origin of Harrow’s powers is largely unknown at this time, but this is the strongest suggestion yet that they will be intrinsically tied to the same sort of gods and monsters that imbue Moon Knight with his gifts.
Arthur Harrow is one of the more obscure characters to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is no doubt what drew Ethan Hawke to the role in the first place. Created by Alan Zelenetz and first appearing in 1985’s Moon Knight #2, Arthur Harrow is depicted as a genius scientist who dabbles in unethical experiments. Not possessing any kind of superpower in the comics, Harrow will undergo some changes for his live-action debut in Moon Knight, with the series instead casting him as a dangerous religious zealot and cult leader associated with the god Ammit, who believes that Moon Knight is the last obstacle stopping him from saving the world.

Moon Knight will introduce audiences to one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most unique characters. Starring Oscar Isaac in the title role, Moon Knight begins as the mercenary Marc Spector, who is left for dead after a mission gone wrong. Before succumbing to his fate, Marc makes a deal with the Egyptian God Knonshu, becoming the bearer of his powers on Earth in exchange for his life.
Moon Knight will first introduce the character under a different name and identity, that of Steven Grant. A mild-mannered gift-shop employee suffering from blackouts and memories of another life, Steven will slowly realize his dissociative identity disorder (DID), uncovering his bizarre origin as a mercenary possessed by a God.
Created by Jeremy Slater for the streaming service Disney+, Moon Knight is directed by Mohamed Diab, Justin Benson, and Aaron Moorhead and stars Ethan Hawke as Arthur Harrow, the late Gaspard Ulliel as Anton Mogart/Midnight Man, and May Calamawy starring as Layla El-Faoul alongside Oscar Isaac as Steven Grant/Marc Spector AKA Moon Knight.
Moon Knight is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ on March 30, 2022, and will run for six episodes concluding on May 4 as part of Phase Four of the MCU. The early reactions to Moon Knight so far have been extremely positive, promising one of the best, most unusual MCU outings yet.
