A new featurette from Marvel Studios gives us a closer look at the upcoming Disney+ series, Moon Knight. Featuring Oscar Isaac, Ethan Hawke, Kevin Feige, and May Calamawy, this special look at Marvel Studios’ Moon Knight offers several new glimpses at the titular costumed vigilante, his (several) alter egos, the series’ main villain, and gives us further insight into how Moon Knight will differ from everything that has come before in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“It’s totally unpredictable,” says Oscar Isaac about the highly anticipated Moon Knight series. Judging by this recent footage, that could turn out to be something of an understatement. “It’s a real legitimate character study,” Isaac says, before Marvel Studios President teases the character’s “incredibly unique visual look.”

Starring Oscar Isaac as the main character, Moon Knight begins as the mercenary Marc Spector, who is left for dead after a mission gone wrong. Before succumbing to his fate, Marc makes a deal with the Egyptian God Knonshu, becoming the bearer of his powers on Earth in exchange for his life. Based on what we’ve seen so far, Moon Knight will introduce the character under a different name and identity, that of Steven Grant. A mild-mannered gift-shop employee suffering from blackouts and memories of another life, Steven will slowly realize his dissociative identity disorder (DID), uncovering his bizarre origin as a mercenary possessed by a God.
“Our job was to kind of put a lens on the things that had the most dramatic juice, and ultimately, take the mental health aspect incredibly serious,” Isaac says in the featurette regarding this crucial aspect of the Marvel character.
Moon Knight Will Make Very “Weird” Decisions
Marvel Studios
Oscar Isaac has previously praised the freedom afforded to the series thanks to streaming on Disney+ rather than being planned as a big-screen venture. The actor explained that, ultimately, not having to worry about the box office has allowed Moon Knight to approach such a strange character in the most unique and interesting ways.
“There was a lot of room to try stuff because there wasn’t the pressure that we got to make sure we make however many hundreds of millions of dollars on the opening weekend,” Isaac said. “So we could make it very point-of-view. We could make very weird decisions. At the moment, at least — and I don’t imagine it’s going to go backward — it feels like that’s where more of the risk is being taken because it can, financially.”
Created by Jeremy Slater for the streaming service Disney+, Moon Knight is being directed by Mohamed Diab, Justin Benson, and Aaron Moorhead and stars Oscar Isaac as Steven Grant/Marc Spector AKA Moon Knight alongside Ethan Hawke as Arthur Harrow, a religious zealot and cult leader associated with the god Ammit. The late Gaspard Ulliel also features as Anton Mogart/Midnight Man, with May Calamawy starring as Layla El-Faoul.
Moon Knight is scheduled for release on March 30, 2022, and will consist of six episodes as part of Phase Four of the MCU.
