The first reactions to Marvel’s upcoming Disney+ series, Moon Knight have arrived. So, how has Marvel Studios handled the introduction of such a unique vigilante? Starring Oscar Isaac as the titular superhero, Moon Knight is due for release later this month, and those lucky enough to have seen the first few episodes of the series have called it “unlike anything we’ve seen before from the MCU,” and “the best MCU TV show ever.”
Moon Knight is born from one of the more unusual origin stories, beginning as the mercenary Marc Spector, who suffers from dissociative identity disorder, and is drawn into a deadly mystery involving Egyptian gods with his multiple identities, such as Steven Grant. Left for dead after a mission gone wrong, Marc makes a deal with the Egyptian God Knonshu, becoming the bearer of his powers on Earth in exchange for his life. Thankfully, it sounds like Marvel has done justice to this bizarre tale.

Of course, not everything reaction can be as glowing as Moon Knight’s other-worldly eyes, with one viewer finding themselves torn over the live-action debut of Moon Knight.
By and large, however, the first reactions to Moon Knight have been extremely positive, with many critics heaping praise on Oscar Isaac’s performance in the lead role. One reaction even described Isaac’s introduction as “the best addition to the MCU since RDJ.”
Moon Knight Premieres on Disney+ on March 30
Marvel Studios
Created by Jeremy Slater for the streaming service Disney+, Moon Knight is directed by Mohamed Diab, Justin Benson, and Aaron Moorhead and stars Oscar Isaac as Steven Grant/Marc Spector AKA Moon Knight alongside Ethan Hawke as Arthur Harrow, a religious zealot and cult leader associated with the god Ammit. The supporting cast will be made up of the late Gaspard Ulliel as Anton Mogart/Midnight Man; May Calamawy as Layla El-Faouly, a mysterious woman from Marc Spector’s past; Lucy Thackeray as Donna, a co-worker of Steven Grant; and finally F. Murray Abraham as the voice of the Egyptian moon god Khonshu.
Oscar Isaac has spent the last few months teasing the unique aspects of Moon Knight, and how, by telling the story on the small screen, they were freer to make strange decisions. Decisions which it seems have really paid off. “There was a lot of room to try stuff because there wasn’t the pressure that we got to make sure we make however many hundreds of millions of dollars on the opening weekend,” the actor explained. “So we could make it very point-of-view. We could make very weird decisions. At the moment, at least — and I don’t imagine it’s going to go backward — it feels like that’s where more of the risk is being taken because it can, financially.”
Moon Knight is scheduled for release on March 30, 2022, and will consist of six episodes as part of Phase Four of the MCU. Moon Knight is just one of several MCU shows due for release on Disney+ as part of Phase 4, with the likes of Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, Secret Invasion, The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, Ironheart, and Armor Wars due to follow over the next few years.
