Following the release of the haunting new trailer for Marvel’s upcoming Disney+ series, Moon Knight, a poster has now been released, further teasing Oscar Isaac’s mummified vigilante. Wielding one of his signature weapons, the image, which was released via the official Twitter account, shows the unorthodox superhero’s hand covered in the blood of his enemies, hinting at the brutal beatdowns that will be unleashed on the street-level criminals who make the mistake of crossing the mysterious Moon Knight.

Directed by Mohamed Diab, Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead and written by Jeremy Slater, Moon Knight stars Oscar Isaac as Marc Spector, a mercenary with dissociative identity disorder (DID) who becomes the conduit for the Egyptian moon god Khonshu, and who is transformed into the titular Moon Knight. Ethan Hawke, whose role has been a secret until now, has been confirmed to be playing Arthur Harrow, a cult leader who encourages Spector to embrace his inner darkness. The Disney+ series will also star Gaspard Ulliel as Anton Mogart / Midnight Man and May Calamawy who has been cast in an undisclosed role.

An official synopsis for Moon Knight has also now been released alongside the poster and trailer, which reads, “A new globetrotting action-adventure series featuring a complex vigilante who suffers from dissociative identity disorder. The multiple identities who live inside him find themselves thrust into a deadly war of the gods against the backdrop of modern and Ancient Egypt.”

First appearing in 1975, Moon Knight was created by writer Doug Moench and artist Don Perlin, and, like so many Marvel characters before him, suffers a tragically rich, complicated origin that is ripe for a serial adaptation. Before donning white robes and becoming a vigilante, Marc Spector grew up in Chicago and eventually became a heavyweight boxer before enlisting as a U.S. Marine. Following his military career, Spector becomes a mercenary, which leads to him taking on an assignment involving an archaeological dig in Egypt, where a statue of the Egyptian moon god Khonshu has been uncovered.

As expected of such shady comic book dealings, the situation quickly goes awry, and Spector is left to die at the dig site in the freezing temperatures of the night. Before succumbing to his seemingly inevitable doom, Khonshu comes to him in a vision and Spector that if he becomes his embodiment on Earth, he will let him live. And so, Spector awakens as Moon Knight, returning to the U.S. with his newfound superpowers and investing himself into a crusade against crime and corruption.

Moon Knight has the potential to be the MCU’s most unique character yet, with the series due to maintain Spector’s dissociative identity disorder, which manifests itself in the form of three separate personalities, each with distinctive traits, identities, and even fighting styles. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has previously confirmed this crucial element in the Disney+ adaptation, assuring fans that this exploration of mental health will play a big part in the Disney+ adaptation saying, “The mental illness is a unique aspect of the program.”

The newly released trailer also revealed that Moon Knight will be unleashed on Disney+ on March 30, 2022.
