Jared Leto’s new movie Morbius will clench the top spot at the box office with its debut weekend. The Marvel Comics adaptation, a part of Sony’s Marvel Universe with the Venom films and the upcoming Kraven the Hunter, has debuted with a solid $39.1 million in ticket sales at the domestic box office. Though not quite Spider-Man: No Way Home or The Batman numbers, this debut is still impressive, given its reviews, and by far gives Morbius the No. 1 spot.
The movie follows Leto as a man who becomes a living vampire after curing himself of a rare disease. While it can be seen as a financial success, the reviews were not so kind, as Morbius landed with a thud at Rotten Tomatoes with its 17% critical score. Conversely, the film has a 59% audience score, so there are many fans still enjoying the movie for what it’s worth. In any case, it remains to be seen how these negative reviews will affect Morbius moving forward, but for now, the film stands tall as king of the box office.

Last week’s No. 1 movie, the Nee Brothers’ The Lost City, has fallen by 51% with a $14.8 million haul. This puts the Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum vehicle at $54.5 million domestically. The smash hit The Batman followed in the No. 3 spot with another $10.8 million pulled in, though that pushes that film up to $349 million domestically and past $700 million worldwide. That of course follows the movie setting some records with its own impressive premiere in March.

The video game adaptation landed in the No. 4 spot with $3.6 million earned in the United States and Canada. Another Tom Holland movie followed with Spider-Man: No Way Home pulling in another $1.4 million to throw on the pile, resulting in the movie just cracking the top five for the weekend box office numbers. The movie has been flying high since its debut in theaters in December and despite its availability digitally, fans are still catching the film on the big screen every weekend.
Everything Everywhere All at Once drew just $1.01 million, putting the acclaimed film into the No. 8 spot below Dog and X. Starring Michelle Yeoh, Everything Everywhere All at Once is one of those rare films that has scored very high with both critics and audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. Underneath that movie to make up the rest of the top ten are the animated sequel Sing 2 with Infinite Storm hitting the No. 10 spot.
