A stellar cast has been put together for Lioness, the next series to come from Yellowstone co-creator Taylor Sheridan. Deadline reports that Morgan Freeman has just signed on for a key role in the Paramount+ series, joining previously announced cast member Nicole Kidman. Zoe Saldaña and Laysla De Oliveira also star.

The series, based on a real-life CIA program, follows Cruz Manuelos (De Oliveira), a “rough-around-the-edges but passionate young Marine recruited to join the CIA’s Lioness Engagement Team to help bring down a terrorist organization from within.” Per the new report, Freeman will play a character named Edwin Mullins, the United States Secretary of State. Saldaña plays Joe, the station chief of the Lioness program who leads a team of female undercover operatives, while Kidman plays Kaitlyn Meade, the CIA’s Senior Supervisor who serves as a mentor.

Other cast members include Dave Annable, Jill Wagner, LaMonica Garrett, James Jordan, Austin Hébert, Jonah Wharton, Stephanie Nur, and Hannah Love Lanier. Saldaña and Kidman also serve as executive producers alongside Sheridan, David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, David Hutkin, Jill Wagner, Geyer Kosinski, Michael Malone, and John Hillcoat. The project comes from MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios.

“I’m looking forward to just meeting the cast, from Nicole to Laysla and the rest of the cast,” Saldaña previously said about the project, via People. “I feel like this is going to be just as challenging [as Netflix series From Scratch], just as emotionally compromising, but in its own unique way.”

Morgan Freeman Is Still At It

Veteran actor Morgan Freeman isn’t showing any signs of retiring anytime soon. The 85-year-old actor frequently appears in films, with more recent movies including Coming 2 America, Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, and The Minute You Wake Up Dead. Freeman could also be seen in the recent shows Solos and The Kominsky Method following an appearance as himself in animated form for Scooby-Doo and Guess Who?. He is also attached to various upcoming projects as well, including the films A Good Person, Muti, and 57 Seconds.

“I think this business retires you,” Freeman said in 2021 when asked about when he might possibly be retiring from Hollywood, via Parade. “I’m not quite sure I can say, ‘Well, yeah, I’m going to retire,’ because if your phone keeps ringing, you’re probably going to keep working. So I’m going to stop there and say probably not.”
