Warning: This article contains spoilers for Ms. Marvel’s season finale.

The finale of Ms. Marvel raised a number of questions about Kamala Khan, her mystical bangle and what exactly Captain Marvel was doing in Kamala’s bedroom. While we are not getting answers to many of these things anytime soon, Ms. Marvel showrunner Bisha K. Ali has explained a little of what was going on at the end of the series and what it means going forward for Kamala Khan.

After having a solid run as Marvel Studios’ highest rated Disney+ series to date, Ms. Marvel’s final ten minutes achieved many things, including giving Kamala’s superhero her Ms. Marvel name, hinting at the existence of the X-Men in the world, killing off pretty much any hope of the Inhumans having an MCU future and delivering a mind-bending post-credit scene in which Kamala Khan seemed to swap places with Captain Marvel herself. That is a lot to unpack, and Ali wasn’t going to give away too much about what it all means. She told Deadline:

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

This related to the short musical refrain of the animated X-Men TV series being played at the moment Kamala was told he had mutated DNA, but the moment was cut short when the youngster dismissed it as just another way to tag her. However, with the X-Men clearly coming to the MCU in the future, and Marvel’s love of a long-game, this is just another subtle hint that the mutants are coming, and may already be here. With The Marvels rumored to include X-Men villain Mystique, this could be more of a hint than anyone realizes.

“As Bruno says, there’s a mutation in her DNA. I think the music cues have a lot to tell you about what’s to come. What we gave you on the show is all you guys are going to get.”

Ms. Marvel’s Post-Credit Cameo Is Who You Think It Is

While the post-credit scene of Ms. Marvel is pretty ambiguous about what exactly has happened, it is clear that somehow Kamala and her idol Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel have traded places. While Ali wasn’t about to give away too much about what has actually taken place, she did confirm that it is in fact the real Carol Danvers who appears in Kamala’s place in that final moment. She continued:

It seems that like the post-credit scene of WandaVision, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and probably Secret Invasion, Ms. Marvel’s ending will all be explained by the time The Marvel’s arrives in cinemas next summer. With many theories now suggesting that Kamala’s bangle has some link to the Quantum Realm, the Kree and other cosmic entities, there is a long way to go before we discover exactly what the connection is, and why Captain Marvel has ended up in the bedroom of her biggest fan.

“That is Carol Danvers in Kamala’s bedroom,” Ali confirmed. “What you’re seeing is exactly what you think you’re seeing. That’s her, there’s no magic there. All I can say beyond that is to enjoy the movie in one year’s time….Her new suit looks so good with how it coordinates with Kamala. It was delicious! The joy I felt seeing her standing in Kamala’s bedroom I can’t describe. It was perfect. That’s been Kamala’s place for safety and where she expresses herself. So seeing Captain Marvel standing in that space, there’s just so much joy in that scene.”
