A new trailer for Ms. Marvel has just been released. Originally, the MCU-set series was planned to premiere in 2021, though this was met with a delay pushing it back to this year. Ms. Marvel is now set for an official release on June 8 on Disney+, and to help tease the series, Marvel has just put out the first full trailer introducing Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan, aka the titular Ms. Marvel. You can watch the trailer below.
A synopsis for Ms. Marvel reads: “Ms. Marvel introduces Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani), a Muslim American teenager growing up in Jersey City. An avid gamer and a voracious fan-fiction scribe, Kamala is a superhero mega-fan with an oversized imagination — particularly when it comes to Captain Marvel (Brie Larson). Yet Kamala feels like she doesn’t fit in at school and sometimes even at home — that is, until she gets superpowers like the heroes she’s always looked up to.”

Bisha K. Ali serves as head writer with episodes directed by Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah, Meera Menon, and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. Executive producers include Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, and Ali. Sana Amanat and Trevor Waterson co-executive produced.
Ms. Marvel Helps Set Up the Theatrical Film The Marvels
Disney+
The new film also helps to set up the upcoming film, The Marvels, which also serves as a sequel to Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel. In the sequel, Larson’s Carol Danvers will be joined by Ivan Vellani’s Kamala Khan as well as Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau, reprising her role from WandaVision. That film, written by Megan McDonnell and directed by Nia DaCosta, is set to be released in theaters on Feb. 17, 2023, as a part of the MCU’s Phase Four.
Khan has also addressed her arrival in the MCU. She broke her silence on her casting last year, which marks her first professional acting debut. The young actress also spoke about what it means to play the MCU’s first Muslim superhero, and she hopes that the casting will help be inspiring to others.
“The fact that the show is being made and they’re including this character in the MCU is [what’s important]," Vellani explained, per Variety. “I don’t really have to go out of my way and talk about being a Muslim and being Pakistani — it all comes out in the show. People seeing a person like me involved in a project as big as this is, I think, inspiring enough.”
Ms. Marvel will start streaming on Disney+ on June 8, 2022. Before then, Marvel fans can first check out Oscar Isaac and Ethan Hawke in the upcoming series Moon Knight, which drops on March 30. This year will also see the releases of other Marvel shows on Disney+, such as She-Hulk and Secret Invasion. On the big screen, fans can also watch out for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in May, followed by Thor: Love and Thunder in April and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever in November.
