Among the many introductions set to happen in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, one of the most prominent new arrivals is multiverse traversing America Chavez, played by Xochitl Gomez. We know that Chavez can create portals between worlds, and from the trailer, she is about to collide with Doctor Strange in a big way. Now we have a few more morsels of information about the new addition to the MCU, and how she will have a significant impact on the world of Doctor Strange.

As we have seen in the trailers, Doctor Strange is currently still mainly in the dark about the multiverse, but that is about to change in his new adventure. After dabbling with things almost beyond his control in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Strange and Wong will find themselves throwing fully into the multiverse, and that leads them to America Chavez, or maybe that should be the multiverse leads her to them.

In the latest issue of Empire Magazine, director Sam Raimi sat down and talked a little more about the movie, including some new details about Chavez and how her arrival in the MCU will change Strange’s knowledge of the multiverse forever. Raimi said, “Strange is still learning about the multiverse. And here’s a character that can actually travel through it. He’s such a know-it-all all the time, and to have to learn from a kid probably smarts.”

America Chavez makes her first appearance in the movie as she is saved from a one-eyed tentacled monster called Gargantos in a scene from the first trailer. Raimi continues to say that this episode pushes Strange to further investigate the multiverse, which leads to more trouble than good. “He is very aware that he must not allow Multiversal episodes like we experienced in No Way Home because he saw how dangerous they were.”

Doctor Strange Will Go on a Journey of Self Discovery During the Movie and Gain a Whole New Perspective On His World

Doctor Strange was always arrogant about his abilities as a surgeon, so becoming the Sorcerer Supreme would always lead to him getting a little too comfortable with the powers he has at his disposal.

An example was seen in Spider-Man: No Way Home, where, despite no longer being Sorcerer Supreme, Strange still has an idea that he is above the rules.

Benedict Cumberbatch has his own ideas about how Strange will be changed in his new movie and how it is going be a “reckoning,” which will come from Strange’s doubts about his own nature. Cumberbatch said, “There’s a lot of reckoning. And a lot of self-discovery. Strange is almost a stranger to himself before this film unfolds and reveals what, essentially, is in his nature, that he then has to either confront or resist or fall into or become. There are some very bold ideas, and some extraordinary tests of Strange and encounters. There are some very unexpected conclusions.”

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will bring the world of the MCU fully into the multiverse on May 6th when it arrives in theaters worldwide.
