My Dad the Bounty Hunter, a ten-part animated series set to premiere in 2023, is directed by Everett Downing Jr., co-director of the Oscar-winning short film Hair Love. The series proves to be highly promising since the official teaser has already been revealed, with each episode lasting 22 minutes. With that being said, here’s everything we know about My Dad the Bounty Hunter, the upcoming Netflix animated series.

My Dad the Bounty Hunter: The Plot

According to the teaser, the story follows Terry, a father to two adorable children, Lisa and Sean, who miss him terribly as he travels for work for longer days. As usual, when Terry travels far, the kids hitch a ride to surprise their father; instead, they are amazed to discover themselves in space.

Their father turns out to be the toughest bounty hunter in the galaxy, with exceptional skills and a significant number of foes to chase down. He discovers both of his children aboard the spaceship and is torn between taking them with him and dropping them off at home. The kids, on the other hand, insist on accompanying him. As they go on a new voyage, the family encounters a variety of adventures, as if dealing with aliens and mercenaries wasn’t enough.

Although animation series may not feature popular actors, they do seek the talents of voice actors who have long been the backbone of the animation industry. Terry, one of the galaxy’s toughest bounty hunters who brings his children along for the journey, is played by Laz Alonso from The Boys. Previously, he portrayed Tsu’tey in 2009’s Avatar and was named one of Variety’s “Top Ten Actors to Watch,” as well as appearing in L.A.’s Finest.

The action-comedy series follows the toughest bounty hunter in all the galaxy, a man with razor-sharp skills but also a secret – his family on Earth has no idea what he does for a living. So when his two kids accidentally hitch a ride into outer space and crash his latest mission, they discover that their average Dad’s job is anything but boring. Dodging dangerous aliens and laser fights galore, this family bonding time goes to the extreme. Wait until mom finds out…

While these three actors have the most screen time in the series, additional cast members include Yvette Nicole Brown, Devin Bright, Jim Rash, Rob Riggle, Leslie Uggams, Yvonne Orji, Thando Thabethe, and Venice Wong.

My Dad the Bounty Hunter series comes from the creators and executive producers Everett Downing Jr. and Patrick Harpin. During a preview presentation, Netflix allowed Cartoon Brew to peek behind the scenes at Dwarf Animation Studio, where Patrick Harpin expressed his thoughts on the show while working on it. He states:

Shakira Presley, who has previously written the scripts for hit animated series such as Craig of the Creek, The Creature Cases, and Benny and the Beat, co-wrote the screenplay with creators Everett Downey Jr. and Patrick Harpin. The music for this animated series will be composed by Joshua Mosley, who has found success on Agent Carter, Bernie the Dolphin 2, X-Men: Apocalypse, and Tuscaloosa. Meanwhile, El Camino’s Yvette Metoyer will supervise the Music Department.

My Dad the Bounty Hunter, one of the most intriguing-looking Netflix animated series, will premiere on its platform on February 9, 2023.
