Who doesn’t enjoy another love story between girl and monster? How about one that also tackles themes of industry versus nature? If these sound fun then the Russian animated movie My Sweet Monster may have something for you! The film will be released in April 2022, and the trailer is available below.
According to Variety, Grindstone Entertainment Group has acquired the distribution rights for My Sweet Monster. The film is directed by Viktor Glukhushin and produced by Segey Selaynov (Netflix’s Secret Magic Control Agency, Sheep and Wolves). The film was produced by St. Petersburg and Moscow based CTB Film Company.

The film follows princess Barbara, who is sick of her father and the palace life. When the conniving post clerk demands the king to marry him to Barbara, she leaves the palace life behind. After running away into the forest, she is kidnapped by a pair of wandering forest bandits. At first life is miserable for the three of them, but as the days go by, something else starts to grow between the princess and the beast. CTB’s director for international business development, Svetlana Barabanshchikova, had this to say about the project in an interview with Animation Magazine.

The announcement was made by Grindstone president and CEO Barry Brooker, Grindstone partner Stan Wetlieb. Juraj Barabas of Luminsecense, the company which screened the film for international buyers, also was involved in the announcement. Barbaras had this to say about the announcement according to Variety.
Producer Selyanov chimed in as well about the deal.
Deals have also been made for distribution in the U.K. (Dazzler), France (Koba), Benelux (DFW), Scandanavia (Scanbox), Spain (Big Picture), Portugal (NOS), Australia and New Zealand (Rialto), South Africa (Filmfinity), Israel (Tulip), Turkey (Angel Film), and the Middle East (Front Row).
My Sweet Monster isn’t the only film on the plate for North American distribution with Grindstone and Luminescence. The company also purchased the rights to the Russian box office hit Upon the Magic Roads, another fantasy adventure from CTB Film Company that brought in $15.9 million domestically. Luminescence’s previous sales also include Pinocchio: A True Story, Nutcracker and the Magic Flute, and Big Trip 2: Special Delivery.
Grindstone plans to release My Sweet Monster in movie theaters in April 2022.
