It’s going to be just one season and done for Naomi at The CW. Per TVLine, the network has pulled the plug on the DC series. The reason for this seems to be due to a substantial decline in the ratings since the start of the season in January. Ratings were strong initially but had reportedly dropped by over 40% as the series rolled out its first season episodes. The news comes just after the season finale, which now serves as the series finale, premiered on The CW on May 10.
Naomi getting the boot is just one of multiple shakeups going on at The CW. Batwoman was recently canceled after three seasons while DC’s Legends of Tomorrow was also axed after a seven-season run. Naomi’s cancelation comes with The CW also ending Dynasty, Charmed, 4400, In the Dark, and Roswell, New Mexico. Rumors of a sale are also said to be a possible reason for so many shows getting canceled.

Avan DuVernay and Jill Blankenship developed Naomi for The CW with the series based on the comic book by Brian Michael Bendis, David F. Walker, and Jamal Campbell. Kaci Walfall starred in the lead role as Naomi McDuffle, a comic book lover and Superman-obsessed teenager who discovers she has her own superpowers. The series also starred Cranston Johnson, Alexander Wraith, Mary-Charles Jones, Mouzam Makkar, Daniel Puig, Camila Moreno, and Barry Watson.
Series Star Kaci Walfall Was Hoping for a Renewal to Further Explore All of the Characters Storylines
Kaci Walfall was looking forward to further exploring the titular character in a second season of Naomi. It wasn’t meant to be, but prior to the cancelation news, she did express what she hoped to see in season 2. She looked to the comic books for inspiration about a possible storyline involving a therapist. Walfall was also hoping to learn more about the other characters on the series. In April, she told Comics Beat:
Fans will instead have to stick with the comic book adaptation to learn more about the Naomi story. There’s always the chance the show could get picked up at a streaming service for new episodes, but with other CW shows also getting the axe even with longer runs, Naomi will likely reach the end of its road with this cancelation.
