Flippin’ sweet! The cast of the 2004 cult classic comedy Napoleon Dynamite is reuniting for a new animated pilot. According to a report from Deadline, the series will be released through blockchain technology. The show, titled Cyko KO, features the four main cast members of the film, including Jon Heder, Tina Majorino, Efren Ramirez, and Jon Gries. The series is based on the comic book of the same name by Rob Feldman, with Heder in the titular role. The Deadline report describes the character as a “fourth-wall breakin’, pinball-addicted, cereal eatin’, motorcycle-ridin’ hero.”

The rollout of the series is unconventional due to the blockchain technology, with a 12-minute pilot launching exclusively with Replay’s Rewarded.TV web3 streaming service. The system is described as a watch-to-earn ecosystem, and NFTs will also unlock the show and other projects. Viewers will earn Rewarded. TV’s native RPLAY tokens by watching various films, shows, and live TV programs.

Viewing Cyko KO will grant users additional rewards, including the chance to meet the show’s cast or cameo in the pilot. The roles for the rest of the members aren’t known as of now, but Deadline reports the series will follow Cyko KO, his sidekick Peachy Keen, and their pet Meemop. They are tasked with protecting the colonies of SuperEarth from giant monsters and crazy characters in what’s described as a “Saturday morning cartoon-inspired, all-ages title.”

Rob Feldman, showrunner and author of Cyko Ko, released a statement with the casting announcement sharing his excitement for the technology associated with the project. “The dream has always been to bring Cyko KO to the world of animation, and to do so through bleeding edge technology,” Feldman says. “Between this incredible cast reunion and our partners at Theta, Replay, and Verified labs, we are going to create something incredibly special for the fans who have supported Cyko and his friends for the past seven years.”

The Napoleon Dynamite Cast Shares a Fantastic Chemistry

It’s been nearly two decades since Napoleon Dynamite landed in theaters, and the comedy is just as hysterical today as it was in 2004. The film follows a listless, alienated teenager who decides to help his new friend win the class presidency in their small western high school. Fans who have seen the film understand it’s not the plot that catapulted the movie to success but the chemistry of the cast and the depiction of mundane everyday life that isn’t often shown in movies.

Napoleon Dynamite was written and directed by Jared Hess, becoming one of his most successful movies to date behind Nacho Libre. The film has an estimated budget of $400,000, grossing $116,000 on opening weekend. However, Napoleon Dynamite eventually became a massive success, as cult classics often do, generating $46 million, over 100 times the budget. Fans are hoping for a similar dynamic, and Feldman hopes for similar success when the Cyko KO Star Cards NFTs are released on Sept. 30.
