While there has not been any indication of Nicolas Cage getting involved with the series, there will be some connections between Edge of History and the original National Treasure films. This includes Harvey Keitel returning as Peter Sadusky, the role he played in both of the movie. That leaves the door open for Cage to potentially appear if the show moves forward past its first season, though Bruckheimer has also teased that there are still tentative plans for a National Treasure 3.

It Ain’t Easy Following Nicolas Cage

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, National Treasure: Edge of History star Lisette Olivera spoke about the pressure she feels coming into the franchise after Nicolas Cage starred in the two movies. She says it’s “scary” to follow Cage’s performance but at the same time, she has welcomed the challenge. She also points out how the same people were involved behind the scenes, even if Cage is no longer in the lead, which should hopefully help the series maintain its National Treasure vibe.

“It’s a scary thought to have to follow someone’s performance like Nic Cage,” she said. “It was daunting, but I kept trying to reframe and focus as if it was just a challenge. I really loved the movies, and no part of me wanted to stray away from what they had already created. It was the same voices behind the movies — the same producers, same writers, Trevor Rabin, who is the composer for the films, came back to also do our show — so I knew I was in safe hands. They were guiding me, especially when I had my own doubts of what I was capable of.”

National Treasure: Edge of History will premiere on Disney+ on Dec. 14, 2022.
