The story of the infamous anthrax attacks of 2001 will be told in a new Netflix documentary. Called The Anthrax Attacks: In the Shadow of 9/11, the doc blends interviews and scripted reenactments to chronicle the attacks along with the intense FBI investigation into the source of the anthrax. The Anthrax Attacks will start streaming on Netflix on Sept. 8, 2022, and you can watch the official trailer below.
Produced by BBC Studios Production, The Anthrax Attacks: In the Shadow of 9/11 is directed by Oscar-nominated director Dan Krauss (Extremis, The Kill Team). Krauss also executive produced with Andrew Cohen with Sweta Vohra producing. The reenactments also feature Clark Gregg as Dr. Bruce Ivins. The 2001 Anthrax Attacks Took Place a Week After 9/11

The attacks were carried out in September 2001, though it took years for the FBI to put an end to the investigation. Dr. Bruce Edwards Ivins, whom Clark Gregg plays in the doc’s reenactments, became a suspect in 2005 with investigators feeling confident about his involvement by 2007. Ivins died by suicide in 2008 before he could go to trial for his alleged crimes, though after his death, he was named as the sole culprit of the anthrax attacks based on DNA evidence. Because some information is still sealed, there are many questions that remain, but the case was formally closed in 2010.
The 2001 anthrax attacks had also been chronicles elsewhere on the small screen. This happens to include the very last episode of Unsolved Mysteries featuring late actor Robert Stack as host, with the episode focusing heavily on the attacks. It was also explored in the National Geographic series The Hot Zone and inspired the 2009 documentary Anthrax War.
