A trailer for the upcoming Netflix event, Geeked Week 2022, reveals new footage from all manner of movies and shows set for release on the streaming platform, including The Sandman, Stranger Things, The Umbrella Academy, The Gray Man, and much, much more. Released via Twitter, the trailer offers a whole host of previously unseen material, with Geeked Week itself promising even more surprises.
Geeked Week 2022 will take place from June 6 to June 10, and if this trailer is any indication, it will be a must-see for fans of, well, anything and everything really. “Set out the board games and grab some waffles, the second year of Geeked Week is coming. It’s a virtual five-day extravaganza starting June 6-10 that will spotlight a galaxy of content from new and returning genre favorites,” the description of the event reads.
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
“In addition to trailers, first looks and behind-the-scenes footage, the event will also gather all your sci-fi, fantasy, horror and animation faves for cast interviews, celebrity games and more," the description continues. As well as new looks and a tease of what’s to come, the trailer for Geeked Week offers our best look yet at The Sandman, an upcoming series based on author Neil Gaiman’s seminal comic book.
Set in 1916, The Sandman begins when Morpheus, the king of dreams and one of the seven Endless, is captured in an occult ritual. After being held captive for 105 years, he escapes and sets out to restore order to his kingdom of the Dreaming. Various studios have tried to bring the sweeping epic to live action for years, with development on a potential adaptation having been in the works for a mind-boggling 25 years. The adaptation promises to be just as visually captivating and epically told as the source material, with the footage shown in this trailer proving that that could very well be the case.
Geeks Have a Lot to Look Forward to from Netflix in 2022
Netflix
Alongside The Sandman, Netflix will soon release the first chapter of Stranger Things Season 4, which recently premiered its first episode to a lucky few who described the hit show’s return as “the scariest outing yet”, a “return to form” and “thrilling and horrifying.” Stranger Things Season 4 is scheduled to arrive on Netflix on May 27.
Clearly, geeks have a lot to look forward to this year, with both The Sandman and Stranger Things Season 4 merely the tiniest taste of what’s to come. Netflix will also premiere the first of what is likely to be many installments in their new spy thriller franchise, The Gray Man. Starring Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans, The Gray Man centers on the CIA’s most skilled mercenary, who quickly becomes the target and is hunted around the world by a psychopathic former colleague and a band of international assassins.
Netflix also brings the likes of The Umbrella Academy, Sweet Tooth, Locke and Key, and Shadow and Bone back to screens, as well as Resident Evil, The Sea Beast, Spiderhead, First Kill, and lots, lots more. While Netflix has suffered a few bad headlines lately, they clearly aim to prove they can still deliver.
