New details regarding the upcoming Netflix Power Rangers reboot may have been revealed. Coming courtesy of Twitter user @Jinsakuu, and reportedly reconfirmed by The Illuminerdi, these rumored details reveal several intriguing developments in the Power Rangers movie and television universe reboot, including that it will have the same “mature” tone as the 2017 Power Rangers outing and that this new set of Rangers will not be of the Mighty Morphin’ variety.
Other details regarding the Power Rangers reboot reveal that it will be the same creative team behind both the proposed movie and television show, with the latter taking major inspiration from other Netflix releases and their serialized approach. Fewer battles between the Zords, major influences from Japan, and its own long-running Japanese Power Rangers counterpart, Super Sentai, are also expected, with this new set of Power Rangers seemingly forging something new while paying homage to what has come before.
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
Since their debut in the early 1990s, the Power Rangers have had a vast assortment of series, spin-offs and toy lines, with the martial arts fighting superheroes continuing to be popular even today. The last audiences saw of the titular team was in 2017’s Power Rangers, which, like so much of the franchise, follows a group of ordinary teens who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove - and the world - is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat.
The Lionsgate-helmed reboot of the property tried hard to drag the Power Rangers into the modern world, with mixed results. While there had been big plans for the movie, with the studio reportedly aiming for six or seven sequels, Power Rangers was met with mixed reviews and a lackluster box office, leaving fans wondering what the studio would do with the property. No doubt that sticking with the same tone as the latest offering will come as a surprise and perhaps even a disappointment to some.

News of a Power Rangers reboot universe first broke back in November 2021, with director Jonathan Entwistle taking to social media to say, “I guess the cat’s out of the bag! The new Power Rangers universe is coming to Netflix.”
The filmmaker, who has worked with Netflix before on the likes of The End of the F***ing World and I Am Not Okay with This has since offered further details regarding his plans for the reboot. “The new Power Rangers show that @jennydelherpes and I are working on is firmly part of the new Cinematic Universe. Can’t wait to share more information with everyone soon! Maybe some familiar faces… in a brand new universe…”
EOne’s Michael Lombardo has also revealed details of how far and wide they want the Power Rangers universe to spread saying, “Since we set up Power Rangers with Jonathan, we pitched really a whole-world approach. It’s not just one show, it is shows followed by films, some kids’ programming. We have found a great writing partner for him, they are off. Knock on wood, Netflix is excited, we’re excited, we hope to have some news soon.”
Details of the next Power Rangers movie remain under wraps at present, though rumors have claimed that it will involve time travel, exploring the franchise’s past before embarking on its own adventures. Watch this space.
