It’s been a rough year for Netflix animation. Despite the streaming service excelling at original animated content, and saving Nimona from limbo, they’ve come under heavy criticism for canceling multiple projects at once and laying off employees. This doesn’t mean they’re not still bringing out content, however.

In wake of the rough news, the streaming service has released a sizzle reel featuring sneak peeks of new and upcoming animated shows. The show reel, which can be viewed below, also features some highly anticipated stuff! While some shows featured have already premiered, such as Green Eggs and Ham: The Second Serving, Battle Kitty, and The Cuphead Show!, we also get first looks at some brand new projects!

Sonic Prime

While the finer details of this show are kept under wraps for now, the highly anticipated return of everyone’s favorite hedgehog looks new and sleeker than ever. The show was initially announced in February earlier this year. Netflix stated in a press release that the show will be 24 episodes and will be for all ages, from kids to long-time fans.

While the plot is still very much in the dark, Netflix has stated that Sonic Prime will be on a “high-octane adventure where the fate of a strange new multiverse rests on his gloved hands.” The story will also feature themes of self-discovery and redemption. Deven Mack has been announced as the voice of the hedgehog himself and has shared his excitement to his personal Twitter!

This is only a small pinch of what Netflix has in store for 2022. While the streaming service has been slimming down its list of in-progress projects, much to the disappointment of fans and crews alike, it’s important to remember that they’re not getting rid of their content and animation all together. Netflix has been in steep competition with streaming services such as Disney+ and HBO Max, but they’re not down for the count yet. Fans of animation will want to keep their eyes on Netflix as they continue to push forward.
