Netflix has found its lead stars for Family Leave, a new comedy in the works at the streaming service. The film is based on the book Bedtime for Mommy by Amy Krouse Rosenthal and focuses on a body-swapping storyline, similar to films like Freaky Friday and Freaky. This one stars Ed Helms (The Office) and Jennifer Garner (Yes Day) as a married couple who feel that their family is falling apart with their children getting older and more detached. Per THR, the logline for the movie reads:
McG (The Babysitter) is directing with a screenplay from Adam Sztykiel (Black Adam). Additionally, McG will produce with Mary Viola under their Wonderland banner alongside Lawrence Grey and Ben Everard for Grey Matter Productions, as well as Garner and Linden Entertainment’s Nicole King Solaka. David Hyman and Jason Brian Rosenthal are executive producing.

While he’s very well known for The Office, in which he appeared as part of the show’s ensemble cast for all nine seasons, Helms more recently starred in the Peacock comedy series Rutherford Falls, which he also co-wrote. He has also appeared in a variety of movies, including a notable role in The Hangover trilogy. Helms has also been featured in films like We’re the Millers, Father Figures, and Corporate Animals. Last year, he starred in Together Together with Patti Harrison.
Garner, who won awards for her popular role in Alias, has also appeared in films like Elektra, Dallas Buyers Club, and Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. She more recently appeared in the Netflix comedy Yes Day, which currently has a sequel in the works that will see Garner reprise her role, as well as the Netflix hit The Adam Project with Ryan Reynolds. Garner also recently popped up in the Prime Video series Upload.
The director of Family Leave, McG, continues his work with Netflix with the production of this film. He previously helmed titles like The Babysitter movies as well as produced Holidate and the Tall Girl films. McG is also directing for Netflix an upcoming sci-fi action film called The Uglies which is based on the post-apocalyptic novel by Scott Westerfeld.
Family Leave does not yet have a premiere date.
