Lana Condor, star of the To All The Boys trilogy, is returning to Netflix in a new limited series. Boo, Bitch will follow Condor as Erica Vu, a high school senior that becomes a ghost. Determined to live her life to the fullest, she ends up in an accident that causes her to cross over to the spirit world. But, could she be remembered more for what she does as a ghost than what she did in her human life?

Deadline confirmed Condor’s involvement in the series as the lead and an executive producer in 2021. She is an executive producer alongside Jamie Dooner (On My Block), Blake Goza (The Escort), and Jonathon Komack Martin (Deadpool and Deadpool 2). Show co-creators Tim Schauer (John F. Kennedy: The 60 Minutes Interview) and Kuba Soltysiak also serve as co-executive producers. The series was written by Erin Ehrlich (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) and Lauren Iungerich (On My Block).

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

With a trailer release and a streaming date confirmed, let’s dive into everything you need to know before this spooky supernatural comedy hits screens.

Boo, Bitch: The Plot

     Netflix

Erica Vu has spent her life living on the safe side of the street. In her senior year of high school, she decides to take a walk on the wild side, which ends up in her losing her life and becoming a ghost. She has no idea why she’s become a ghost but is told it must be because she has some unfinished business on Earth. Is that unfinished business simply that she never lived the life she planned to, whether that’s going to parties, dating her crush, or doing something out of character?

The new ghost isn’t ready to leave this world yet and finds a loophole that will let her stay. If she’s more famous in death than in life, her ghost stays. This causes Erica to go on a path of gaining as large a social media following as she can. It changes her personality, her presence, and herself (maybe for the worse). People in school seem to have mixed reactions, from her best friend being concerned about the changes in her friend, popular girls being jealous of the reaction Erica is getting in school and online, and guys being romantically interested.

Ghost Erica has some interesting properties. While she can’t walk through walls or doors, she does seem visible to everyone around her and can hold inanimate objects. Is this because people don’t realize she’s dead? It isn’t clear if her friend ever reports finding her body, which could mean she’s visible at first because her death isn’t known. As she grows (her following), maybe she becomes more visible because she’s becoming more famous in death.

Everything Else We Know

Lana Condor has spoken about what audiences can expect from Erica. “My character becomes the worst person ever,” Condor shared in an interview with Seventeen. “She’s crappy and mean.” The actress also notes that Erica’s look is new for her. “The entire look of my character Erica is something that people haven’t really seen me in before.” Her Boo, Bitch character certainly sounds different from To All the Boy’s Lara Jean and Moonshot’s Sophie.

Fashion is a significant part of the series. “I’m very excited for people to see it because we have an amazing hair, makeup, and wardrobe department,” Condor shared in the same interview. “Our hope is that this is something our viewers would try to emulate.” Erica’s fashion sense after she becomes a ghost looks super fun from the stills released so far, from holographic jackets to unicorns dabbing on a shirt. To make the fashion accessible for emulation, items come from popular clothing retailers like Dolls Kill.

You don’t have to be invited in to watch Boo, Bitch when it hits Netflix. You should probably check that you can see ghosts, though.
