Love to Hate You: The Plot

The official trailer for the drama was recently released by Netflix, and here’s our take on the story based on it. Yeo Mi-Ran is a rookie attorney at Gilmu Law Firm who refuses to back down no matter what and absolutely hates losing to a man. In fact, she goes out of her way to knock out gangsters in order to prove her point and exhibit a woman’s strength. Nam Gang-Ho, on the other hand, is South Korea’s most successful actor due to his attractive appearance and best on-screen chemistry with actresses.

In reality, he does not trust women, which is most likely due to something in his past. And since Yeo Mi Ran’s firm primarily deals with the entertainment industry, she comes across Nam Gang-Ho and concludes that he isn’t nearly the saint that the public perceives him to be. In her attempt to prove Nam Gang-Ho’s true nature, she grows closer to him. Meanwhile, Nam Gang-Ho, who is wary of women, finds her intriguing. Will they be able to find love for each other in the midst of their war to destroy one another, thus filling the void in their lives?

Here’s how Netflix describes Love to Hate You with its synopsis.

Love to Hate You: The Cast & Crew

     Netflix

Although the cast of Love to Hate You does not include industry-leading stars such as Lee Min Ho or Lee Jong Suk, the actors feel perfectly balanced for the material they have chosen and the roles they have created. Yeo Mi Ran, a fiery attorney, is played by Kim Ok Bin, who also serves as the film’s female protagonist. First seen in 2005’s Voice, the actress has since starred in several hit films and television shows like The Front Line, The Villainess, and Children of a Lesser God. Additionally, her performance as Tae Al Ha in Arthdal Chronicles was outstanding, while her role as Lee Hwa Sun in Dark Hole, an innovative zombie series, revealed her full acting potential.

“For an attorney who despises losing to men and an A-list actor who distrusts women, love means nothing — until they’re forced to date each other.”

Popular figure Nam Kang Ho is played by Yoo Teo, who plays up his character’s mistrust of women. Fans have seen the actor in a variety of dramas, including Live Up to Your Name and Dr. Brain, as well as films such as Vertigo, Pawn, and Seoul Searching. Nonetheless, his supporting roles in Arthdal Chronicles as Ragaz and Vagabond as Park Su Chan have earned him national acclaim.

While these two are the lead actors and actresses in the drama, Kim Ji Hoon and Go Won Hee will play important roles as their best friends, Do Won Joon and Shin Na Eun, respectively. The former is a seasoned actor who has appeared in dramas such as Flower of Evil, Flower Boy Next Door, and Money Heist: Korea - Joint Economic Area. Go Won Hee, on the other hand, is well-known for her roles in Strongest Deliveryman, Revolutionary Sisters, and Calm Down. Among the supporting cast in the drama are Lee Joo Bin (Mr. Sunshine), Kim Sung Ryung (The Heirs), Choi Yoon So (Penthouse Season 3: War in Life), and Jung Kyu Soo (Beyond Evil).

Moving on to the production team, the series is directed by Kim Jung Kwon, a well-known filmmaker, and screenwriter. He made his directorial debut in 2000 with Ditto, a film that has stood the test of time and established his worth as a filmmaker. It took him a while to develop more impactful films until he released Babo: Miracle of a Giving Fool in 2008.

Despite numerous ups and downs in his career, he always returned to the profession with exceptional television dramas and movies, like Snow Is on the Sea, I Hate You Juliet, and Lie After Lie. Given his ability to craft romance dramas and films, Love to Hate You could be just what we Korean drama fans need from the filmmaker. The screenwriter is Choi Soo Young, who has previously penned scripts for hit dramas such as My ID is Gangnam Beauty, 7 First Kisses, and Pure Love.

Release Date

Love to Hate You will be released on Netflix on February 10, with all ten episodes available to stream straight away.

While there has been no confirmation of a second season, if the drama fares well with the audience, Netflix may announce it soon.
