The Lost City directors will soon be turning their attention to bringing He-Man and the Masters of the Universe into live-action for Netflix, and the filmmakers have now named their cinematic muse for completing such a daunting task: the MCU outing Thor: Ragnarok. Speaking with DiscussingFilm, director Adam Nee explained how Masters of the Universe will approach the zanier aspects of He-Man lore, using the tone of the third Thor adventure as a foundation.
With its bright color palette and 80s flare, many have made the comparison between Thor: Ragnarok and He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, and it sounds like this was not lost on the Nee Brothers. In fact, Adam Nee finished by saying that the Marvel movie “is the best He-Man movie ever.” Aaron Nee continued the thought, assuring fans that they will not shy away from the craziness of Eternia.
“I think it’s the fun aspect, you know? I’ve heard from some fans that their dream [for Masters of the Universe] would sort of be like Lord of the Rings, but you can’t have characters like Snout Spout in Lord of the Rings! So I think that we are maybe more in the Thor: Ragnarok kind of tone where it’s a huge adventure film, but we have fun and there’s a good amount of reverence in there as well.”

Group W Productions
Now that the adventure-comedy The Lost City has been released, Adam and Aaron Nee revealed that they hope to begin work on Masters of the Universe as soon as possible.
“We’re not hiding from the wild, crazy aspects of the property. It’s part of what made it makes us love [He-Man] to begin with and we’re embracing those elements as well.”
Starring Kyle Allen as He-Man, Masters of the Universe will tell the origin story of the 80s fantasy hero. Masters of the Universe does not yet have a release date but is coming courtesy of Netflix. The latest version of the script is being written by David Callaham of Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings fame (which should help with the Marvel movie tone) alongside The Nee Brothers. Production on the live-action Masters of the Universe is expected to begin in Summer 2022.
