A new trailer and key art have been released for Murderville, a six-episode procedural crime comedy series coming to Netflix in February. The series stars Will Arnett as Detective Terry Seattle with each episode introducing a new celebrity guest to play his partner. The problem? None of the guest actors have been given a script and they must improvise their way through the murder mysteries. You can watch the trailer below.

Synopsis: “Meet Senior Detective Terry Seattle (Will Arnett), Homicide Division. For Terry, every day means a new murder case and a new celebrity guest star as his partner. But here’s the catch: each episode’s guest star isn’t being given the script. They have no idea what’s about to happen to them. Together, the guest star and Terry Seattle will have to improvise their way through the case… but it will be up to each celebrity guest alone to name the killer. Join them as they punch a one-way ticket to Murderville. Based off the BAFTA award winning BBC3 series Murder in Successville by Tiger Aspect Productions and Shiny Button Productions.”

The main cast also includes Haneefah Wood as Chief Ronda Jenkins - Seattle, Lilan Bowden as Medical Examiner Amber Kang, and Phillip Smithey as Detective Darren “Daz” Phillips. The guest stars to come in for the six episodes are Annie Murphy, Conan O’Brien, Ken Jeong, Kumail Nanjiani, Marshawn Lynch, and Sharon Stone. Arnett executive produces with Marc Forman, Jonathan Stern, Peter Principato, Brian Steinberg, Tom Davis, Andy Brereton, and James De Front. Krister Johnson also executive produces along with serving as writer and showrunner. Iain Morris and Brennan Shroff directed the series with other writers including Anna Drezen, Chadd Gindin, Craig Rowin, Jack Kukoda, Marina Cockenberg, Kerry O’Neill, Hannah Levy, and Adriana Robles.

Murderville’s Guest Stars Have to Guess the Killer’s True Identity

The celebrity guests will have the challenge of improvising an entire performance from the very start once stepping onto the set of Murderville. For some added fun, none of them are told the answer to the big mystery beforehand, and they’ll also be trying to figure this out while simultaneously doing improv. Some of the stars manage to guess things accurately while others are off, though viewers will need to stream the series to see which ones succeed.

“I do think people liked the idea that they could come in, they didn’t have to learn any dialogue and they could be themselves and just go for a ride,” Arnett says, per The Hollywood Reporter. “And I have to give these people credit because it’s freakin’ scary as sh*t.”

There could be more episodes yet to come if this batch of six do well enough with viewers on Netflix. As Arnett teased: “I’d love to do more if it works and people respond to it. And if people kind of shrug and go, ‘Yeah, fine,’ then great, we had a lot of fun.”

Murderville will start streaming on Netflix on Feb. 3, 2022.
